no, please no....isn't theatre meant to give us an experience we don't get on tv and film. I guess this has been prompted by producers thinking about the success of the plays that go wrong. Physical slapstick on stage, but is Pasquale that physical...well there he was dropping from the roof of the Palladium recently.

On one hand...awful. The other I get to tell my favourite (only) Joe Pasquale story...
When he was in Panto a few years back in Cardiff, his Mrs rocked up looking for him. Except she was at the Sherman Theatre not the New Theatre. She flounced in and declared to Box Office "I'm Joe's wife" as we had nobody called Joe in the cast/staff at the time Box Office were very confused. After a bit of confusion, we established who she was looking for and that she was in the wrong place. So we explained, and proceeded to give her directions (it's less than a 5 minutes walk) to which she responded 'Oh no I'm not walking' and flounced away.
Despite the flouncing and obviously being a bit confused she was lovely...I hope she found her husband at some point that night.

I am in two minds about this (well probably four or five but anyway). I'm sure there is an audience out there for this. It's not me. Why couldn't they create a new character for Joe, rather than re-using an old one. That'd be too much of a risk probably.
I'm too young to remember the series and have only seen clips. However if they tried to put on a show of my favourite sitcoms I would never want to see it with different actors.

Roy Hudd is Huddlineing a 12 week tour of a version of early 90s sitcom "Waiting for God" sometime around June, I assume he's playing Graham Crowden and Nicola McAuliffe is Stephanie Cole.
I saw the Duty Free revival a couple of years ago and decided never again to one of these sitcom tours.

Given what Mischief Theatre have shown can be done (and, for those who remember it, "No Sex Please, We're British," and the Gielgud "Blithe Spirit" as examples), I don't think the wild stunts will be a particular problem done live. All the Mischief Theatre members are in their 20s & used to doing very physical shows. Is a comedian in his 50s, coming to it "cold" really going to be able to manage that sort of level of physicality?

I can still remember my disappointment on discovering that Michael Staniforth (Timothy Claypole) had passed away in the late '80s and then trying to come to terms with the fact I'd never see him on the West End stage...

Good question, Dawnstar. There's lots of ways around it. If you use a lot of scenery stunts, it isn't an issue, and if the "physical" stuff is given to a younger cast member, it covers it up - for example "Frank" swings a plank, and the younger cast member is knocked out of the window. It's Frank who gets the laugh, and the other person does the actual stunt. "No Sex Please, We're British" worked like that. Come to think of it, that was Michael Crawford as Runnicles, wasn't it? Can't help on that one, it was before my time. The only thing I can remember about Some Mothers Do 'Av 'Em is seeing a clip of Crawford on roller skates being towed along behind a van. Granted that particular stunt isn't possible on stage anyway but I couldn't imagine Pasquale managing that level of physicality. Maybe they could hire some ex-TPTGW cast members to do the difficult stuff around him!
