I'm assuming Deadline are just printing casting as and when they find out about it? It seems the only person not announced is Dr. Dillamond. I wonder if they have changed the role for the film version, because the actor/role is way, way, way down the call sheet at number 308. There is to be a Dr Dillamond in the film but casting won't be announced for a while yet. They have done three days filming so far so there does seem to be some progress. I confess, I never thought this film would actually happen.

I genuinely hope to be wrong but so far I've been nothing but underwhelmed with everything I've heard. I feel as though they've waited far too long to actually start on this and lost the momentum and hype there once might have been. I hope they're going to pull something truly special off but I'm not excited yet.

Considering that the lead roles are No. 1 on the list, 308 is basically an extra. I know who is playing him too. His initials are RG

It'd be interesting to see the make up and costume design for Chistery.
It'd also be interesting to see if in the film we'll actually see (even just a glimpse) of Dorothy and Toto, rather than just a shadow image, as they do on stage.

With the technology available these days I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we see Judy Garland herself in the movie.

I wonder if they'll bring in Fiyero's wife from the book

Universal can't use any of the elements from the film The Wizard of Oz because that's owned by Warner Bros. Even the ruby slippers might have to be tweaked unless they license them from WB.

I'd imagine Christery will be CGI You're probably correct however if that's the route they choose to take then (personally) I'd find that quite disappointing. If they could do it without CGI in 1939 when the original made, surely they could do it today?

They didn't have a choice in 1939 though, alternatives didn't exist. It would look really weak now.
It's like Planet Of The Apes, if they'd used men in monkey suits in the remakes it would've looked naff. It'll be very realistic CGI, along those lines.

Exactly. As good as it was in 1939, its still very obvious its not an actual monkey and it's costumed in some way

I know, but Universal will more than likely license the important elements of the 1939 movie. And given how anticipated Wicked is I’m sure Warner Bros. are only too happy to oblige. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man has been a resounding success so I’m sure other studios are well aware of the box office potential of lending IP to other studios.

I wouldn't be so sure on WB licensing elements from The Wizard of Oz to Universal for Wicked. They have their own Oz related film called Toto coming in 2024.

Universal have not got the license to use Wizard of Oz characters/images. The script for the film says things like 'we see her hand' 'we see a flash of gingham' 'her shadow appears' its being done the way it is in the stage production.

I wonder how big that script is. My guess is 200 pages minimum.

Surprisingly, there is very little being added to the story. Some backstories, some scenes extended, 2 new songs in the second Act/second film.
Apparently they're still undecided about Chistery, but they're currently leaning towards motion capture.

I wonder if they'll decide it's good enough for a single film in post production.

I have a question about the new songs?
It its my understanding that all existing songs from the show are the film plus some new songs.
However what I wonder is whether the new songs are indeed, just that- new songs? Or are they (or some of them) songs that were written for the show originally but cut?
