The original production of Expresso Bongo surprisingly starred Paul Scofield, one of several odd choices he made in his career. He didn't do the film version. Has that musical been revived within living memory ? Monty Norman wrote the music for the RSC production "Poppy" which was a musical in the form of a pantomime about the First Opium War in China - it was very good.

Interesting to read about the different stuff he had done over the years. Also that he made 485k from the Bond theme between 1976 and 1999 alone so that was clearly a very nice little earner for him.
His other work may not be so well known but he gave us one of the most iconic pieces of music ever and is still as well known today as when it was first played at the cinemas 60 years ago. He lived to a good age so RIP Monty
