Now get Rebecca Trehearn in as Svetlana and I'll buy a ticket She’d be sensational! There is an awful quality video on YouTube of her singing Someone Else’s Story on a Welsh TV show, and even with the grainy sound her rendition is incredibly moving. I can’t imagine how amazing she’d be live.

Frustrating from me that this is the only one of the three concerts I want to see, and the only one I am completely unable to attend.

Guess that's the payoff for the Sunday matinee shows now is that a fair few of these one offs will be Monday/Tuesday which means if outside London taking time off (if you work weekdays which I know not everyone does). You could normally get a cheap Sunday night hotel as well if you did want to stay over compared to mid week. Chess would have been the one I would have wanted to see but cannot do the date, at least that one you know works as a concert.

I was interested in this, then I looked at the ticket prices. Top price £124. That's an awful lot more expensive than the LMTO concerts I've been to at Cadogan Hall previously. The last one I went to, in February 2020, top price was £62.50, which is £5 cheaper than the fourth price for Chess. It feels as though there are fewer & fewer events I can afford to go to, unless I want to sit miles from the stage which I don't because I can't enjoy performances unless I'm close enough to see the acting. I imagine by the time the full cast is announced for Chess all the cheaper seats will be gone anyway, & I wouldn't want to book until at least knowing the Svetlana & Freddie casting.

Tempted to book as I love both leads but I'm going to resist until the other two leads are announced

I am not really a concert guy. But do love both Chess and Kinky Boots.
For the life of me I cannot understand why an actor would spend weeks learning a score for one night only?

In the hope of it turning into a staged production, to challenge the brain, they love the part / show / score etc I have studied sociology and I'm no sociologist but I still read about it (plus reading about psychology trains and showtunes stuff)

Damn, I'm a bit surprised how well this has sold already. Oh well, guess it saves me some money

Concert stagings aren't normally my thing but I want to see what they've done with the Drury Lane, and also want to purge the memories of Laurence Connor's dreadful revival at ENO from my brain, so have booked cheap seats in the gods. Presumably won't need to see much anyway if it's a concert.

Extra date added on the 2nd of August. Additional cast also announced: Joel Harper-Jackson as Freddie, Frances Mayli McCann as Svetlana, Ako Mitchell as The Arbiter. Link: www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/further-chess-cast-drury-lane_56689.htmlFor those who have seen Joel before, does he have the rock voice for Freddie? I'm always disappointed when people can't deliver on the big rock notes in Pity the Child (which Tim Howar did brilliantly at the Coliseum). Also they are both fab performers and will do very well in this but I can't help feeling that Frances Mayli McCann will look more like Hadley Fraser's daughter than his wife!

I thought Joel was really good in Kinky Boots. Not sure that constitutes as rock, but he can definitely sing the high notes.

Joel can definitely do rock, he was in Myth at The Other Palace a few years ago (the first thing I ever saw him in I think) and he sang that really well.

I'm actually so glad they've announced this 2nd date. I wasn't able to make the 1st August one, but I can't wait to see this entire cast! Looks fantastic.

Glad to finally visit Drury Lane since the refurb without having to fork out for Frozen. The 50 piece orchestra should be lush and yes, Joel should be a brilliant Freddie!

Glad they've added the extra date. I wasn't fast enough to book the first night so have managed to get one for the second.
