Below is who should win it for me. Just my opinion, but I should preface it by saying that I haven't seen all of the nominees: Best New Play: Prima Facie at Harold Pinter Theatre Best New Musical: The Band’s Visit at Donmar Warehouse Best Musical Revival: I loved Oklahoma and South Pacific equally, but for different reasons. South Pacific because it was a glorious, traditional revival with some of the best singing I have heard in a long time on the musical theatre stage. Oklahoma for doing something radically different with the piece, mining the text for new meaning. I thought I would hate it, but didn't. Overall, I would say Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at Young Vic. Best Actress: Jodie Comer for Prima Facie at Harold Pinter Theatre (already has it in the bag!) Best Actor in a Musical: Julian Ovenden for South Pacific at Sadler’s Wells (just stunning! I still think about that opt up at the end of 'This Nearly Was Mine'). Best Actress in a Musical: Miri Mesika for The Band’s Visit at Donmar Warehouse Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical: Marisha Wallace for Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at Young Vic Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical: Peter Polycarpou for The Band’s Visit at Donmar Warehouse Best Theatre Choreographer: Matt Cole for Newsies at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre (no competition) Really surprised that NEWSIES did not get nominated for Best New Musical though! Agree with all of this except Play and Choreography. I thought Prima Facie was elevated by Comer's performance and wasn't that great as a piece of writing. I would give it to For Black Boys instead. I haven't seen Newsies so can't really comment on it but I imagine if I did see it I'd agree given the responses to it, though I did really love My Neighbour Totoro but it feels weird to award that in the same category. The Oliviers really need to make their categories clearer, though I suppose it's nice that some more obscure roles can get nominated this way than at the Tonys.

Really wish they would seperate new score or new orchestrations. There is a huge difference between what goes into creating both of them and it would seem to be unequally balanced. I have no idea how Totoro got this nom over any new musical, but specifically Tammy Faye. Has the best new musical ever been won by a production that wasnt nominated in anything other than performance? Definitely agree, totally different skills. I mean I can't think of any musical theatre composers who do their own orchestrations off the top of my head which should be evidence enough that they should be awarded separately. I can't really think of any reason for the current situation except that practically the awards panel don't have the knowledge to recognise the difference so as to warrant separate categories (like The Oscars and the sound categories), but shows other than new musicals could appear in a separate orchestrations category allowing for more room for actual new musicals to be nominated in the other category so if that's the reasoning it still wouldn't hold up. Maybe it's just to save time by cutting a more obscure award.

To have to compose brand new melodies, write lyrics to fit the melody, that can advance character and plot, to fit within the book of the show quite often takes years and years of writing and revising. Orchestrations are integral to the sound of a show, no doubt about it.They provide colour, context, emotions and can pinpoint specific moments within a scene, no doubt about it, but they're often the last thing done and completed within months if not weeks. They shouldnt be pitted against each other.

Mark Rylance and Jerusalem should absolutely not have been nominated. It’s a revival yes- but if exactly the same production and performance than won Oliviers last time. It was insulting that the Mary Poppins revival won awards for the same categories as first time round. Jerusalem didn't win the Olivier. It went to Katori Hall's The Mountaintop. Perhaps they are trying to make amends?

Overall, these are a good set of nominations, and the snubs are a lot less surprising than previous years. Thrilled to see Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, and South Pacific all nominated in the Best Musical Revival category; I personally feel that was the strongest category of this year's set. Glad that Marisha Wallace, Julian Ovenden, Rafe Spall, Patsy Ferran, and David Tennant were all recognised for their work too.
Speaking personally, I was a little disappointed not to see My Fair Lady get more nominations; after all, the costumes won a Tony Award, so a little surprised they weren't even nominated here. Also surprised to see Patrick Vaill (Oklahoma) and Gwenyth Keyworth (To Kill a Mockingbird) snubbed, but there's always going to be some unpredictably with these things; these are the Oliviers after all!

Out of interest, did you see Tammy Faye? No, unfortunately I did not see Tammy Faye. I am hoping to though if it transfers. Yep I suspect you would be saying Katie Brayben as Best actress in a musical if you had!

It was eligible, but it's just not that good of a show. Some of the score is good, but that book is a clunker.

I see that Chris Bush was there, as one of the Sky's Edge nominees. I'm a little bit cross with her for pandering to southern audiences. Rose tells Harry she's meeting some of her Cole Brothers colleagues for lunch, instead of dinner. Later, Joy asks her Aunt, in a broad Sheffield accent, if she wants to stay for dinner, instead of tea.

What do with think the nominees will perform this year? I’d guess Standing at the Sky’s Edge will perform the title number, although there are a few other numbers they could do. Bands Visit - Omar Sherif Tammy Faye - Sylvia - Something which features Beverley.

I can see them doing the title number from Oklahoma, Something with My Neighbour Totoro (similar to Life of Pi last year). Possibly Julian Ovenden doing some South Pacific. Wouldn't be surprised if Newsies does a bit of choreo.
