Unless there are any more shows that will open prior to the end of February 2022, I believe this to be the list of eligible musicals in the main categories (oops if I've missed any). Definitely a less "commercial" bunch of shows to last year in the new musicals category. New Musical:101 Dalmatians The Band's Visit Bonnie & Clyde Hex Mandela Newsies Standing at the Sky's Edge Sylvia Tammy Faye Revival
Beauty and the Beast Elf Grease Legally Blonde My Fair Lady Oklahoma! South Pacific Is the Troubadour a SLOT member?

Beauty and the Beast Elf Grease Legally Blonde My Fair Lady Oklahoma! South Pacific Who do we think are the early favourites? For new musical, I would imagine the current contenders would be The Band's Visit, Mandela, Newsies, Standing at the Sky's Edge and Tammy Faye. There's also the possibility that Doubtfire enters the scene, though it may be opening too late to be eligible. As for who might win, that's hard to say considering so many of them have yet to open. I have a hunch Tammy Faye might be a favourite due to the hype and creative team, but there's also a strong argument for The Band's Visit being a favourite. As for revival, the top two contenders seem to be Oklahoma and South Pacific, and I imagine the former is the favourite to win. As for who the other nominee could be, I would assume My Fair Lady, though it seems the reception to that production wasn't quite as positive here as in the States.

Bill Pullman, surely? Bill Murray was offered Mad House, but is waiting for the musical version of Lost in Translation. 🙂 That’s the one 😂 Someone somewhere would pay a fortune to see the Murricane live. I don't think he's done any stage work since his Second City days. He's notorious for leaving directors hanging as to whether or not he'll commit to a film role until the first days cameras roll. Can you imagine the havoc he'd play in a theatre setting?

Revival
Beauty and the Beast Elf Grease Legally Blonde My Fair Lady Oklahoma! South Pacific I think Sister Act will be eligible for the revival category.

Revival
Beauty and the Beast Elf Grease Legally Blonde My Fair Lady Oklahoma! South Pacific I think Sister Act will be eligible for the revival category. I don't believe productions at the Eventim Apollo are eligible, as it is not a SOLT venue.

The reviews for ''Orlando'', but especially Emma Corrin were so great that I'm wondering if they can beat Jodie Comer?

Excellent choice! She’s someone who has really advocated for West End performers whenever she’s been given the opportunity.

With the arrival of Standing At The Sky's Edge at the National this evening, I think we can safely assume that it'll be up for best new musical, which makes my prediction for the nominees the following:
Tammy Faye The Bands Visit Standing At The Sky's Edge Bonnie and Clyde OR Newsies

What a treat for us to have two musicals that are new and not full of broadway transfers! (joking!! kind of...!)

Tammy Faye will still sweep this

Even with that being true, Tammy Faye shouldn't sweep this

I do wonder if they'll keep actor/actress when people like Emma Corrin are no doubt strong contenders

The Tony's seem pretty set in having actor and actress this year so I'm fairly sure that will stay for us this year at least

I have to say I am surprised the they have not changed to genderless categories, I feel that the pause Covid created was an ideal chance for them to change it, and not just with the Olivier's. Some other awards have few categories but with a higher number of nominees in each category and I think this is probably the best idea.

Just look at the uproar at the Brit Awards and their move to a genderless Best Artist leading to an all male shortlist.
Given the way world drama over the centuries is biased towards male characters, it would be very possible to see all male shortlists for some acting awards.
I would not like to see a reduction in the number of awards being available as that is likely to disadvantage female actors more than their male counterparts.
So perhaps adding in a third category for acting is the only fair way forward. But we probably are some way off having enough trans/NB roles/actors for there to be sufficient competition. That may well change and could be unfair until the balance shifts but we shouldn't sacrifice female actors in the meantime.
Edit:. Ok. The WoS awards didn't erase women as winners. But they are not typical awards. The fanbase voting delivered some undeserved nominations and winners.
But I stand by the need to retain separate categories so as to protect representation.
