My Neighbour Totoro at the Barbican the other week:
People who bought dayseats next to me thought it was going to be the film with a live orchestra. Watching their amazement during the first act was fascinating.

I was sitting next to someone who got the ticket as a gift from her father and also thought it was going to be the film with live orchestra - she was so excited when she saw what it was! That has to be the best surprise.

Wasn't overheard at the theatre, but coincidental as I was on the train after seeing Cursed Child: Isn't Meghan Markle the one who died in Harry Potter? The one in the bathroom?

At my first time seeing Wicked in Dublin in 2013, a man in front of me was discussing how "Idina must be off today".
I loved the idea that Idina has been performing as Elphaba non-stop across multiple continents since 2003!

I almost choked on my drink.

Woman in front of me - “She's a bit full of herself isn't she?”

On entering the Olivier theatre for the Crucible and the wonderful set with the sky raining a man announced quite loudly ‘that’s not real rain’. Was met with quite a few giggles from those near

That reminds me of being in the Lyttleton at the end of Network, when they showed the various presidents in order up to today. Obama got loud cheers, Trump got even louder boos, then one man shouted ‘you’re a moron’ at the screen. I just sat there quietly, ‘cause it’s a video. 🤷🏻♂️
Stretching it a bit with this, as it wasn’t in a theatre, but when I was killing time before Mrs Doubtfire, wandering around the Arndale Centre. In WH Smith there was a young couple agonising over which books to buy. They weren’t interested in the content, just which ones would go with the coffee table. I know they’re called ‘coffee table books’ but still, never realised people actually bought them to just sit there.

At From Here to Eternity this afternoon - on seeing a palm tree just inside the door of the auditorium, the lady next to me asked her friend, "I wonder where it's set? Must be somewhere in South America with that palm tree"!

Walking to the theatre last night there was a guy (presumably a producer) on the phone saying 'I think this show is good enough for an 8 week run at the Ambassadors'. Aim high.

At the start of Act 2 at tonight's performance of A Christmas Carol at the Shakespeare North Playhouse, one cast member says to the audience "I'm so glad you've all come back", with one lady in the audience replying - "We had to. They have locked the doors".

Cute one for something different.
At Wicked this week at the start of the interval, I saw a very young little boy with his Dad getting up from their seats. He was 4 at the most. And he said in the cutest voice ever, “wow Daddy, that chapter was LONG!!”
He isn’t wrong.

During the applause Lisa Lambe recieved a "Brava!" from a gentleman in the audience tonight after her big solo in Act 2 of Hex.
First time I've ever heard that in the theatre. It was very cute and well deserved though. That voice is breathtaking.

"Is it a real Groundhog"? Followed by "If they use real children at Matilda it should be a real Groundhog". Said several times to several people by a grown woman.
