I watched the first episode, which I think was shown during half-term, and I watched the last.
Although not everything on the internet is true, I've just read that the final episode broadcast in Australia was 90 minutes long. That probably explains why I didn't always follow what was going on...or perhaps it's because I haven't watched for at least 25 years.
My favourite line ever? "Grow a brain, Murphy." I don't know why it's stuck with me, but stuck it has, from the very early days.

From what I could work out the channel it aired on in Australia cut it back to four episodes a week so Channel 5 ended up ahead of them. So to catch up the Australians have had four 90 minute episodes this week. These have been shown here as the last ten regular episodes plus a one-hour special.

That was very well done. I've not watched it in many years, but I enjoyed spotting lots of the old favourites. Yes it was cheesy in parts ("Especially for You"?) but it worked particularly with Susan's final monologue.

Wow that was emotional. :-( Absolutely perfect - the concept, direction, writing and performances. Susan's monologue at the end ENDED ME. I never watched it when Guy Pearce was on (maybe slightly before my time) but he put everything into his storyline- huge respect. Don't know what I'm going to do now! Excited to see the Neighbours : The Farewell Tour next year.

To think the whole 32 year arc of Neighbours was the love story Jane & Mike. GENIUS.

It was nice to see Jesse Spencer make a cameo plus Margot Robbie. The former has been in the US for almost 20 years starring in House and Chicago Fire.

It was such a good decision to make the finale about Mike and Jane's story, and full props to Guy Pearce for not forgetting where he came from and delivering some of the best work of his career, Annie Jones was magnificent too. I loved it. I've not watched in years until this week, so I can't claim to fully understand all of the dynamics, but it was a great way to introduce happy nostalgia without disrespecting the current cast and audience. I may have let out a little squeal when Jane put her glasses on. And fair play to Guy. He really didn't need to come back, or take the time to film a proper story line, but he fully invested in it. Scott and Charlene was the bigger story back in the day, but the audience wouldn't thank them if they tried to create drama in their relationship, even if schedules allowed for it. There was bonus fun as we got to spot the edits to allow the pretence that actors were all on set at the same time.

Guy Pearce's sister has Down's Syndrome, so one of the reasons he was willing to do more than a cameo was a chance to work with actress Henrietta Graham as Mike's daughter, showing her having a successful career at Lassiters. There were lots of clever little references and moments in the last few episodes that would have gone over most people's heads.

I agree with many people's comments above. The absolute star of the finale for me was Guy Pearce. As others have said, he's come a long way since he started in Neighbours but he fitted seamlessly back in, didn't think he was above it all. Class is timeless. The lamp scene was hilarious and just a typical fluffy Neighbours touch. Lots of happy endings but lovely that the main one everyone is talking about (Jane and Mike) is an older couple. I'll have to watch it again to catch all the references and spot everyone in the wedding video messages. I'm so pleased for them all that it finished on such a high that has gone down so well with the fans.
My only small niggle was actually Jason and Kylie. I totally appreciate they are the most famous to be linked with Neighbours but compared to others, it seemed like a cameo totally separate to the episode. I felt like I was watching Jason and Kylie, not Scott and Charlene.

Hadn’t watched Neighbours for decades, but watched the final episode as it’s the end of an era. With no emotional attachment I didn’t shed any tears, but then Madge Bishop appeared sitting at that table and I had a lump in my throat!

I totally appreciate they are the most famous to be linked with Neighbours but compared to others, it seemed like a cameo totally separate to the episode. I felt like I was watching Jason and Kylie, not Scott and Charlene. There was a bit of a can't do right for doing wrong there IMO. If they'd tried to integrate them more fully into the script there would have been complaints that they were pulling focus from the current cast and other old-timers. But if they'd just appeared in a video call along the lines of the other cameos, people would have felt short-changed. They could have had them coming to visit Paul (or Harrold of Shane of Jane) earlier in the week, but surely they'd have known that Mike and his daughter were back in town, so they'd have blabbed. Even if they'd appeared after he'd bumped into Jane they would have got in the way of their reconnection. I realise I'm putting more emphasis than is usually required in realistic behaviour for soap characters. Travelling thousands of miles to see people without telling them you are coming so there can be a surprise seems standard. It was bad enough having me wondering where they parked their car and what they were doing while the street party was being set up. My biggest complaint was that while certain scenes were filmed to tease then reveal (such as Mike on his bike), the 'coming up next' clips gave too much away.

Can I just repeat… Holly Valance. Big childhood crush was Flick, and a darned good one if I say so myself! Young me had taste.
Now she is married to a billionaire.
I found a fiver under the sofa?

There's a bit in The Metro that puts the numbers of viewers at 2.5 million. What have recent viewing figures been like, for context?

Kylie and Jason only had scenes with Jane, Paul, Mike, Harold and Des I think whilst Guy Pearce did scenes with a lot more of the cast.
It was a sentimental ending and nice to see Jane get happiness as she was my first Neighbours crush.
They could have done a big ending with Paul getting his cumuppence or getting away with one more trick but they played it safe.
Strange they never had Jason's real life daughter return as he was her character's great uncle in the show and being on screen with his daughter would surely have been a big pull to get Jason back.
No Sheila so did the actress who played her have a falling out given her abrupt departure earlier in the year. A video message from Lou would have been nice but Tom Oliver who plays him retired from acting in 16/17 and may have been happy with his departure then. Plus is well into his 80's now.

Guy Pearce pretty obviously wasn't on set at the same time as Kylie and Jason. They cobbled together a scene with a body double to make it look like they were hugging, and stuck him at the end of the balcony when they panned along. If they'd all been present it would surely have looked much better than what eventually aired.

It has now been confirmed that channel 5 viewing figures for the final were 4.02 million once recordings and catch-up were taken into account. It was the most watched show of the week on 5.

Apparently Tom Oliver was too ill to take part, but the envelope to the solicitor was addressed to a T Oliver as a nod to his involvement.
