Theatre Food

It is surprisingly hard to find decent food in Stratford - the One Elm pub does an excellent veggie Sunday roast though.

So disappointed to hear about the fish and chip shop - it always smells mouthwatering and I've been promising myself a blowout there!

On the main road from Stratford Upon Avon, just before the big roundabout, there is a pedestrianised area, wh re Caffe Neros is (another favourite of mine) with a little road called Bards Walk and there is a lovely independent restaurant called Bensons, it serve simple but delicious food, my favourite is Local Warwickshire ham, 2 eggs and hand cut chips, but they also do a varied menu, which I have linked below do your own delectation.

Also whilst on the subject, when I go to Chichester and on the walk from the station to the theatres, you just pass the ancient clock tower in the middle, there was a little cafeteria, where you helped yourself and paid at the end, they would make up a baguette or warm up a sausage roll, this place was called Macaris and this year I discovered it has permantely closed, I was crest fallen another place that sold honest and good food.

I like the cafeteria at the RSC grab a drink and cake and sit by the river.

Agree and love the Watermill Restaurant, both the help yourself pre theatre and the menu are great. Took my mum there once on the back from Wales, she complainted she didn't want a service station, as I was looking at a sign for a turn off for Newbury. Couldn't be more different from a service station.

Bensons has closed as Bards Walk being redeveloped however moved to Henley Street opposite Birthplace.
Can recommend HR cafe by Windsor Street coach & car park, the Four Teas In Sheep Street, Huffkins in Bridge Street.

It used to be really good before it changed hands 5 or so years ago then fell off a cliff.

I miss the Clanger shop which is now another tea room.

No 9 Church Street is excellent whereas a curry before theatre always seems a courageous choice.

I've heard good things about No 9 Church St - is it the sort of place you can go in solo and feel comfortable? In general I've been surprised at how few places in Stratford seem to like solo diners; they look really grumpy about it and find the worst place to sit, even when the place is half empty - I once got put upstairs completely on my own which was quite uncomfortable!

Shout out to the new Penny cafe at the Old Vic; their Sausage Rolls are incredible.

Was at the NT drinking my tea on one of those roundy things with the table in the middle (no seats in the Kitchen or nearby!). Lifted my cup of tea and in the time it took me to take a sip a waiter had whipped my saucer away!

Now the Kitchen, in the National, the one next to the bookshop, their watermelon and feta salad is exquisite, as good a food than I have had anywhere.

I've heard good things about the quality of the food at the Kitchen, but extremely disappointing things about the quantity.

Does it though? 'Cos if I'm paying more than a couple of quid for something, I don't expect to be hungry again five minutes later. It sort of defeats one of the primary purposes of eating.
