While Netflix recently bought the Roald Dahl Story Company, Warner Bros still owns the film rights to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hence why Wonka is being released by them.

I'm presently surprised how good this looks, and I don't particularly rate Timothée Chalamet.
And lol at Hugh Grant. He really is making a career out of scene stealing supporting roles.

Looks great but it's a musical isn't it? Why aren't they featuring any of the singing, just two quick glimpses of dancing? Almost as if they don't want to tell people it's a musical and scare them off. It's Sweeney Todd all over again. I'll never forget the bunch of lads behind me who swore like sailors when they thought they were coming to a horror film and then Johnny Depp started singing 🤣

It does look it's paying homage to both the book and the 1971 film.

Films are damned if they do and damned if they don't. Show singing and you get people who hate musicals slating it, and also people who do like them moaning about the vocals. Don't show it and people still moan.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the trailer. I hadn’t realised it has the same director as the Paddington films - Paul King, which can only be a good sign as they are both brilliant. This should do well in the Christmas market. Very surprised to see Hugh Grant - nice to see him having such fun with roles now 😊

Not a fan of Timothee but have to say this looks really good, and Hugh Grant looks to be a scene stealer like in Paddington.

Agh! They still aren't including the musical aspect in the trailers! I'm a big Divine Comedy fan, so I'm most excited for Neil Hannon's original songs. Plus I love the Paddington movies so I'm excited for a new Paul King film too. And personally I think Timothee has it in him to be a fine musical/comedy lead. There's clips of him starring in Sweet Charity when he was still at drama school. He can sing/be funny/be eccentric. I think he'll make a very good Wonka.

I thought Gene Wilder's performance couldn't be matched but this looks so delightfully different and Timothee seems perfectly cast. Cannot wait to see Hugh in it - never really took to him in rom-coms but think he'll be so funny in this.

I think this is going to be one of those films with a hugely recognisable cast of well known (musical and non- musical) British movie actors and a case of spotting the West End performers with either bit parts, one line, or members of the ensemble.

As a huge Divine Comedy fan, I can not wait to hear the songs for this! And as a huge Paddington fan… this has the makings of a hugely warm and delightful movie… fingers crossed!

Reviews so far have been less than stellar, there’s been predictions that the box office take will be a lot less than expected for a movie with a budget this size: I think I will give it a few weeks and wait to see what the general opinion is from the public before deciding whether I see it (I’m not keen on Timothee Chalomet which isn’t helping to fuel any excitement)

I’ll go and see it because of King and I have really enjoyed Chalemet in everything I’ve seen. Plus, I just want to see it.

However the social media reaction embargo lifted yesterday and it’s looking very positive! variety.com/2023/film/news/wonka-first-reactions-timothee-chalamet-1235809762/

Lots of official press photographs released on social media yesterday of the principal cast standing on the grassy banks of there the old Mayor's office was (City Hall) with Tower Bridge behind them.
Obviously a cold, wet and dreary day as they're all wearing coats and holding umbrellas.

It's good to see there are other big Divine Comedy fans here! Their residence at the Barbican last year was one of the most memorable concert series I've been to in my entire life.
Definitely looking forward to this.

Saw this last night & thought it was lovely. Doesn't quite the scale the heights of Paddington 2 but its still a very endearing couple of hours with lots of good set pieces & cameos from our stalwarts.
Chalamet was great & I think it will go some way to opening up parts for him in an even more off-beat or even more mainstream direction.
Songs were surprisingly good too, and you could hear every lyric!!
It's been noted by some how it captures the feel of family musicals from the 60's and I would definitely concur. A treat.
Four chocolatey stars from me.
