Been contacted about an Old Vic app. Did one of those silly surveys.. are there theatres with such loyalty apps where you gain points to spend? I dont know of any. It didnt appeal to me but those of us who buy a lot of merch might like one. Thoughts?

I'm only aware of apps that let you order drinks from the bar. The Old Vic had one before the pandemic, the Royal Opera House had one and the BFI tried one. In my experience none of them worked very well at all as so few people used them that bar staff didn't really know what to do with them. No discounts or loyalty points for using them though...

Nimax has one as well. I think theatres should just have QR codes similar to what Nandos do where you scan and then it links to an ordering page, having an app for every theatre operator is just a waste of storage.

Best I've used so far was at Phoenix Arts Club (where, to be fair, they do have a tiny number of punters to deal with compared to the average West End theatre!) - place your order, incl any special notes (no ice in the coke please), drinks arrived at table within minutes, exactly as specified!

I did the Old Vic survey too. It didn't sound appealing to me because I don't really want my phone cluttered with lots of apps from different organisations and using up memory I need for things I use more frequently. It's far more convenient to keep all of my tickets together in one place on my phone, and I prefer to buy tickets on my laptop. I have Todaytix and London Theatres Direct apps as I do sometimes buy last minute tickets on my phone, but apps for one theatre/group seem pointless - more useful for the theatre's marketing purposes than beneficial to me. I also mentioned on the survey that they'd probably be penalising older customers who may be less likely to use apps or have higher spec smartphones, so won't get those loyalty points. But maybe that's the point - are they looking for ways to attract a younger audience?
