Do they actually impersonate Cher in this? Or is it more if an “interpretation”? I’ll be honest, I want to see full on Chad Michael’s level copying! This is an interesting question - the Broadway production seemed to want its three leads to have reasonable likeness to Cher, and of course the use of the Bob Mackie costumes helped. This production, without the Mackie gowns and with actresses who do not bear quite as close a resemblance to Cher, seems on the surface to be less concerned with impersonation. I think it'll be quite interesting to see where they go with this as I think there's much more scope for theatricality; it could be a far more interesting piece of theatre if these actresses tap into the essence of Cher as a personality rather than trying to recreate her physically.

No hair tossing or naying then? No face slapping and “shnap out of it!”?

Saw the show on Broadway and had a blast. But it is "The Cher Show" and the story of her life so really hope that they do go down the impersonation route as opposed to interpretation as the show will be stronger because of that. Otherwise then its just three women singing Cher songs with nice frocks right? Vocally they have to sound like Cher and also in the dialogue surely

As for the costumes, you don’t have to BE Bob Mackie to create a Bob Mackie-eque look so I imagine that’s what they’ll do. Just give people what they want, which is Cher impersonations with all of the cliches.

Does the Sonny Bono double up as Peter Cetera for ‘After All’? I like that one.

Bob Mackie is literally a character in the show. So I'm intrigued as to how they will do this without a rewrite.

I'm totally on board with Debbie and Danielle, they'll be superb. Millie is a more obscure choice but then she was very entertaining in Six so I'm sure she'll be great. Very surprised with her she isn’t the best singer so this shall be interesting

I was always desperate to hear more of Debbie Kurup’s fabulous voice in the Prince of Egypt so can’t wait to see her in this!

So happy with casting for this and glad they didn’t go for celeb names. Excited to see debi loved her in prince of Egypt, so glad I’ve booked this. Front row to and it’s at the new theatre in cardiff which is a lovely venue. Excited for the summer now to see this :-)

Very odd casting. None of them look anything like Cher at all. Kurup will be the same in this as she is everything- like it’s Chicago.

They look like Cher to me! I'd much rather this approach than some horrific Drag Race caricature.

Danielle Steers looks the most like Cher but I didn’t enjoy her Dead Ringer For Love in Bat Out Of Hell. I’m such a massive Cher fan but I have no desire to see this show especially after seeing clips of the Broadway show.

She sounds nothing like Cher. She has a deep voice, but that’s it. I could see her making it work enough for the show, though. Which songs would she have to sing?

She’s also physically nothing at all like Cher.

i mean, is physical resemblance even relevant? surely it's about the embodiment of character and the narrative involved.

Back when I was at (lets call it) Shizz university, we used to play ‘Gypsies’ on a loop in the SU bar (early 90’s…not actual 70’s cheeky!), sometimes to the point of them unplugging it so that we couldn’t. I am greatly looking forward to this now.

I’m actually surprised how good Debbie sounds! She has little subtle notes of Cher but isn’t a drag queen impersonation like we got with Stephanie on Broadway. Wish we’d seen more of Millie and Danielle instead of their awkward dancing like a couple of spare parts.
