I'd go again to see this for Jake Sheers as I think he will be rather interesting. Never heard of Self Esteem and even after googling her I am none the wiser. Mind you I've never heard of most singers past the 80s.

Big Self Esteem fan so this is very exciting, I think she will nail it.

Rebecca has a voice that I think will suit Sally well, I’ve no doubt that Act 2 Bowles will be a highlight. A shame they won’t put up the ‘cheapest tickets’ for now as I’m thinking about going back ..

Well they’ve ballsed up that announcement ! Still - exciting casting which I’m sure will Pack the place out. Indeed. I am surprised they didn’t go for Confidence or the very talented Faith in Oneself. Glad I’m seeing the current cast, I’ll put it that way.

I absolutely adore Self Esteem / Rebecca - I was so tempted to revisit Aimie as Sally - but glad I've held out for this particular cast change. Saw this in previews with Eddie/Jessie and was blown away by the grandeur of the set design.

They have long been rumoured to be in line for a run in the roles. Interesting to put two pop singers in the show at the same time, I thought they might have gone for one with a more accomplished stage/musical theatre performer and then maybe the other one with a more established performer also.

From the show’s website:
Rebecca Lucy Taylor is not scheduled to perform on 27 Spetember (Matinee), 05 October (Evening), 11 October (Matinee), 18 October (Matinee), 4 November (All performances), 15 November (Matinee), 23 November (Evening), 29 November (Matinee), 07 December (Evening), 13 December (Matinee), 21 December (Evening), 27 December (Matinee), 04 January (Evening), 10 January (Matinee), 18 January (Evening). At these performances, the role will be played by our alternate Sally Bowles, Emily Benjamin until 18 October, with Nic Myers taking over frm 19 October.
No dates listed on Jake’s page, so looks as though he’s scheduled to perform unless for one of the usual reasons.

Why are people giving so much slack to the stunt casting of this?

Why are people giving so much slack to the stunt casting of this? They're both talented individuals from a musical background, and with varying levels of connection to theatre. It's a bit of a stunt cast in the literal sense, but I don't think that inherently makes it worthy of criticism if the performers are capable regardless.

Why are people giving so much slack to the stunt casting of this? I don't think it's stunt casting if they can act and sing the parts. It's only stunt casting (like in Chicago) when they would get a tv star who can't sing, dance or act for the lead role. (Melanie Griffith, Jerry Springer, George Hamilton). Jake did Kinky Boots on Broadway and we know that thye both can sing. I will reseve my judgement until I can see them perform.

Why are people giving so much slack to the stunt casting of this? Did you ever go and see this production? Because all you've ever done is moan about the prices, the actors, and casting. Yet I don't recall reading your review.

I seem to remember the usual suspects saying this wouldn't last after the first cast change!

I have to say I’m surprised the prices have stayed the same as when there were two movie stars leading the cast. I thought it was good, but nothing special, and much preferred the version that used to tour with that gut-punch of an ending.
Jake Shears would have been exciting casting 20 years ago and it looks like I’m getting old, because I’ve never heard of Self Esteem.

One hasn’t even been seen yet, and for the other I can’t find her listed in the cast so it must have been a tiny part, possibly non speaking. There’s no evidence (so far) that she can act so I’d say she’s been cast for her name and ability to sing. Given that Sally requires a strong actor that’s stunt casting in my book.

There’s no doubt she might be great. But I know very well that if this was a soap actor with no MT experience or evidence of being able to sing who got put into a high profile musical as the lead, people would be sneering about stunt casting. But when it’s a musician/singer who’s considered to be “cool” with no acting experience it’s “exciting“ casting. I’m just pointing out the double standard.

I'm going out on a limb to say that there hasn't been kick back on this casting because those familiar with Rebecca Lucy Taylor's persona whilst performing as Self Esteem would pretty confident she can nail Sally Bowles. This is genuinely a good, exciting bit of casting that absolutely fits this version of Cabaret.

I saw Self Esteem live back in 2019 and she is very much performance based. That was at a 250 capacity pub venue so she has certainly gone much bigger since then. I've never thought about what roles in musical theatre would be suitable for her to be honest but she does have a good voice so if her acting is up to scratch could be a good Sally.
As regards Jake the Emcee would be an obvious role which would spring to mind for him to play. The Cabaret formula seems to be "get a name in the 2 main roles for 3 months" with the backbone of an excellent supporting cast and band. I'd personally rather see singers in musicals than attempting dramatic stage roles.
