Hull Truck is playing host to Urinetown next week, from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 September.
Then, a few weeks later, from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 September, it's the turn of not just Carousel, but a reimagined Carousel It seems Carousel is the R&H property that can be tinkered with. Makes sense, I suppose, if you've got declining demand for the rights.
"Yull never werk alern." (With apologies to Hullians everywhere.)

I think half the country seems to be doing Made in Dagenham or Calendar Girls this year. True. It's always particular shows that are flavour of the month at any one time. Add "Shrek" to the two above.

With a new tour of Shrek in the offing, productions of that will be more limited

Bit of a random one but does anybody know if any theatre groups claim the title of most rural theatre group in the country?
I’m on the committee of a group in the Scottish Highlands and I’m certain our group is up as one of the most rural but I’d really like to know if there’s another more rural than us.

I've seen some top notch amateur productions this month including West Side Story at Wakefield, Camelot at Hayling Island, Carousel at Hull and Sunset Boulevard's (16th) opening night at Folkestone. Such talent, so entertaining but in most cases sad to see so many empty seats.
Some coming up, many of which I've booked, include (Sept.) My Fair Lady at Worthing, Bonnie & Clyde at Questors and Bridewell, both London in the same week, Candide at Blackheath Halls,(Oct.) Betty Blue Eyes at Lewes, Little Mermaid at Radlett, Hello Dolly at Dartford, Mack & Mabel at Bath, Flames Of Injustice at Witham, Carrie at Bridewell, Hairspray at Chingford, Company at Hereford, Looking Glass at Brentwood, Gypsy at Taunton, (Nov.) Oliver at Southend, 42nd Street at Redhill, Cinderella (R & H) at Bridewell, Carousel at Loughton, Little Women at Gravesend and Tick Tock Boom Broadstairs
The most popular at present seem to be Shrek, Calendar Girls, Half A Sixpence, Evita and as always Oliver.
Tracking them all down isn't easy . Many are ticketed through Ticket Source which has a search facility, others are on the NODA or Amdram websites, but many can only be found by searching individual show titles, towns and theatre names which has regularly occupied me on my travels to the shows

Good spot. I've booked the Friday matinee. A full day from Kent by coach and train but I loved the concert version at Cadogan Hall so worth the trip hopefully.

I am appearing in an amateur production of Kinky Boots at the Royal Spa Centre in Leamington Spa from the 18th to 23rd October.
I'm playing the roles of Richard Bailey/Italian Fashion Show Manager alongside several ensemble roles, alongside a very talented principal and ensemble cast.
The show will be performed each night from Tuesday to Saturday as well as an additional matinee on Sunday 23rd October. Tickets are available here: warwickdc.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/1173631706/events/428510890

SEDOS are doing Carrie - The Musical, from 25-29th October at The Bridewell Theatre. Its being directed by Chris Adams, one half of the duo who made the fantastic 'Out For Blood' podcast. Truly one of the best researched and presented podcasts about a musical. It will be interesting to see if anything from the original production gets carried (no pun intended) over into his production. www.sedos.co.uk/shows/2022-carrie-the-musical

Good spot. I've booked the Friday matinee. A full day from Kent by coach and train but I loved the concert version at Cadogan Hall so worth the trip hopefully. This was exceptionally good yesterday. Fully staged and costumed, cast all professional level in my opinion, with wider age range than I expected. Helen Roper who played Constance gave a virtuoso performance whether singing, acting or remaining motionless for several minutes at a time ! Matinee or evening performance tonight highly recommended for anyone in the area I think this is strictly speaking a college rather than an amateur musical. Just £10 for my ticket and managed to travel from Mid Kent to Birmingham and back using coach and train for under £30.

And how was the relocated Carousel? No problems visiting Wakefield last month and great production of West Side Story. Slightly disappointing NOT to be delayed returning home really as I got all my train fare back in 2021 ! Carousel relocated to Hull was let's say interesting but I don't think the added "fish wife" vulgarity or bad language enhanced the show in any way, similar to how the changes at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre left me disappointed. The cast were okay but I've seen better. I was listening in to two women to my immediate left discussing aspects of the show in some detail before it started, while the director, octagenarian Richard Green, and his wife were seated to my right. They applauded enthusiastically, as I always try to do, but the women rarely applauded in act one and didn't return for act two.

Some you win, some you lose...which I suppose equally applies to train services and amateur theatre.
I know it's all part of the design, but I still think Hull Truck looks unfinished.
There's a production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in Hull in late June 2023. I'll post more in the College thread when tickets go on sale.

I did still enjoy it but I just didn't feel most of the changes did anything to enhance what is a musical theatre masterpiece. Not a fan of re-imagining. What next - Sound Of Music with a Martin and Monks ? I stayed overnight in a nice little hotel and saw Mrs Doubtfire the following afternoon in Manchester which was an easy five stars from me. Hunchback... is also at Epsom Playhouse in a fortnight's time but nothing will ever top the production at Colchester in February this year which I commented on earier in this thread.

If anyone is in or around Congleton, south Cheshire, I'm involved in CMT's production of Footloose! It's got a great cast (including me as the high school principle!) and it's on the rest of this week! Come along! www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on?q=Footloose
