Hello hello, Long time no see, but with the shutdown of the theatres a year ago, I just found it too depressing to think much about theatre, so I disappeared from this board for a while. I moved to the UK in January 2020 anticipating lots of exploring/travel and finally lots of theatre after being deprived of theatre for quite some years while living in Switzerland where I don't speak the language, so local productions were mostly off the table and I also couldn't really afford to go to the theatre, because Switzerland is expensive! Having those expectations subverted after much hype was quite hard, so I evaded this lovely theatre board... UNTIL NOW! Because with the nice spring weather and the roadmap from the government, I feel like there is some hope on the horizon. We might be enjoying our favourite (or new!) shows very soon again. So, in the spirit of being optimistic and looking forward to better times, I have a few questions for you: What shows have you booked for the coming year? And which shows would you like to book or are you going to book soon? What is holding you back? I'm really interested to hear all your plans and dreams (and maybe concerns as well )!! If a thread such as this already exists, feel free to merge it or delete it

I'll take the high road and share my own plans: I have only 1 show booked at the moment: Six at Leeds Grand Theatre at the end of June (the booking was moved from last year). I am really looking forward to finally seeing Six as I've been wanting to see it for such a long time. However, I don't think there is a socially distancing policy for that show at the moment. This I find a bit weird. Is it truly the intention that theatre life goes back to normal again completely in June already? So we're all sitting very close together in June already? This seems like a very strange idea to me... I looked at some of the great London musicals to see if I could/should book those, but I saw those also sometimes don't have any social distancing policies in place. Does anyone know how this works? (yes, I know I'm already derailing my own thread ) I'd be interested in booking basically any musical in London, because I haven't seen many yet. Pretty Woman is on my list, as well as Cinderella and Come From Away. The lack of social distancing is just making me a bit hesitant at the moment to actually make the booking. Also: what if theatres are closed again and I get even more vouchers?! I'm also seriously considering booking some of the plays at the Globe. I am especially excited about Romeo & Juliet and Twelfth Night as well as the Audience Choice. The latter seems like such a fun concept!! They are quite clear about how they are dealing with covid, so I am patiently waiting until the general booking opens

Only think i’ve still got booked is a trip to see Six again.
Once I’m vaccinated and feel like going back to theatre is safe for me, I think I’ll book to see Hairspray, Leopoldstadt, Tina, and Back To The Future. Maybe spoil myself with another trip to &Juliet if finances allow! I’m very ready to get back to theatre!
EDIT: I completely forgot that I still have my ticket for 4000 Miles but i’m not confident that’ll still happen.

Nothing booked as yet, and being a single theatre-goer I suspect it'll be a while before I'm back to purchasing and attending as regularly as I did before.
However I got confirmation today that the Royal & Derngate in Northampton are reopening in May (I volunteer there) so I should get to see a few things through that. Can't wait.

No Shows. Just a Steps concert in November.
I typically book on the day and I'm guessing there will be plenty of availability once distancing is ditched.

Anything Goes.
You are here @ Southwark has my name all of it as does the rumour of Amelie returning.
Singing in the rain and Under millkwood both appeal but I want decent seats and not have to remortgage in the process - so I can dayseat for these

Short answer a lot.
Long answer Tell me on a Sunday (amateur), Six. (x2), Everybody's Talking About Jamie (x2), The Show Must Go On (Concert x2) Les Miserables Concert (x4) Sunset Boulevard, Little Shop of Horrors (Amateur), Come From Away (x2), Cinderella, Back to the Future (x4), Hair Concert, Heathers, Prince of Egypt, Hamilton, Rocky Horror Show (x2), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (x3), The Phantom of the Opera (x2), The Lion King (x2), The Ehrlich Brothers (magicians), Frozen, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Book of Mormon, Tina, Rock of Ages, School of Rock, Les Miserable (x2), Harry Potter, Nativity! (x2) 9 to 5, Cinderella (Panto). Then for 2022 already Everybody's Talking about Jamie, Back to the Future, Magic Goes Wrong, Le Roi Lion, Book of Mormon, Signin in the Rai, Sister act and The Lion King. Anything goes is currently missing in action but will hopefully be in there too!
Edit to add: this is what happens when I try and squeeze 2 years of theatre into 9 months!

Once I’m vaccinated and feel like going back to theatre is safe for me I'm waiting for this too. I don't know when I'll be vaccinated. It might not be until July, or even later with all the vaccine supply problems. So I can't book anything yet. I assume those who have lots of shows booked are either over 50s who have been vaccinated or under 50s who aren't afraid of covid.

At the moment a handful of Austentatious shows in the West End in the Summer and lots of their tour dates in the Autumn. The only things I've booked recently are to see Biggins in panto in Dartford and an outdoor festival to see one of my favourite bands, FM.

Sorry, ridiculously long post. But you did ask people to explain their thinking, so here goes... My only remaining pre-pandemic bookings are: Nutcracker! at the Lowry (November) Hamlet at the Young Vic (October) 4000 Miles at the Old Vic (still in limbo) I requested refunds for pretty much everything else. Most theatres were pretty good about it. Two organisations weren’t, and took many months before they finally issued refunds. It has put me off handing my money over to them again in a hurry, which is especially disappointing as they were two places I used to go to see most of their in-house stuff to support them. The only play I saw properly in the past 12 months was The Comedy of Errors at Storyhouse’s open air theatre in Chester last summer. I later booked to see their A Christmas Carol but then felt really apprehensive about it as it was indoors. I couldn’t decide whether to go or not, but then Chester was moved up a tier and the performance was cancelled anyway. Then the rules relaxed and the production went ahead with a live audience, as well as some livestreams, which is how I saw it. And after that the rules then changed again so they had to finish the run by livestreaming without an audience. Around the same time I booked for The Car Man at the Albert Hall in June. I know nothing about dance, but I’ve liked the few Matthew Bourne shows I've seen and have never been to the Albert Hall, so thought I’d treat myself. Despite the faffing with A Christmas Carol, I assumed we’d be in a better situation by the summer again. Then came the current lockdown. The Car Man’s due to run for a fortnight, with June 21 falling in the middle, so I’m not sure what’s happening with it, and judging by their website neither is the Albert Hall. They are still selling tickets for it though. The other day Matthew Bourne posted a clip of some of his dancers doing a sequence from Nutcracker! It seems odd to me that they’d be rehearsing that now, but not The Car Man which is a lot nearer. I may be reading too much into it, but for a very social media savvy company to not be actively promoting their next show makes me suspect it’s not happening. As much as I would love to see it, I wouldn’t mind if it is postponed. There’s still too much uncertainty for me at the moment, not just around the shows, but about whether I’d even be allowed to travel to them, that it puts me off booking anything else. Bearing all that in mind, and after saying on another thread that I’d be booking less in the future, today I have booked tickets for three shows. Those are The Merry Wives of Windsor, Pride and Prejudice and The Jungle Book. All three are at the open air theatre in Chester again. With it being outdoors it feels about as safe as anything can be at the moment. I don’t see me booking anything indoors, or that requires any travel, for a good long while yet and when I do it will be done last-minute.

Booked with specific dates. Happy Days - Riverside Out West - Lyric Hammersmith The Play That Goes Wrong - Duchess Romeo & Juliet - Regent's Park Miss Julie - Southwark Hamlet - Theatre Royal Windsor The Cherry Orchard - Theatre Royal Windsor Halmet - Young Vic
Waiting on new dates:
Anything Goes - Barbican To Kill A Mockingbird - Gielgud 4,000 Miles - Old Vic
During the lifting of lockdown, we were able to get to the theatre a little bit. We felt that almost every venue with went to was taking strong covid precautions with arrival times and very spaced out seating in particular. So the thinking is that even if the current roadmap slips a little bit, a lot of the shows over the early to mid summer will be operating with the same policies and so we are quite happy to book. Combine that with the expectation/hope that both myself and herself will have had the first jab before the first show rolls around and well I can see the piles of credit lined up from cancellations last year rapidly diminishing.
Planning on booking both new NT offerings and the Globe once dates are on sale and starting to keep a much closer eye on mailing lists etc for anything else we might be interested in.
Of course, I've just jinxed it all now. Sorry about that everyone.

Really interesting thread. Another long answer (again, since you ask haha)
So I had so much booked and as time has gone on and it became increasingly unclear when anything would happen, I increasingly requested refunds and had less re-scheduled.
Things I have rescheduled are those that might sell out/it's often hard to get good seats. So I have: Les Mis - Bristol Les Mis - Birmingham Les Mis - Manchester Cinderella - first night in London Joseph Palladium x 3 (specific seat I wanted in front row!)
Then now it depends on confidence of stuff happening. I am pretty sure the socially distanced stuff will happen so have booked: Les Mis Concert x 6 (this will be my fix for May/June as JCS was at OAT last year)
The non socially distanced stuff I'd like to see up and running before I commit having been disappointed so many times. Looking through the seating plans they all have loads of availability so I am in no rush to book. I do intend to see the following in July/August/September (if they open!): Phantom Mary Poppins Back To The Future Anything Goes Hairspray And Frozen I'll wait a few months until the fuss dies down. Am moderately interested but would like to wait for reviews and for deals!
Few other bits: Rent I have booked for Manchester Pride weekend (small theatre and wanted an aisle) Steps arena tour in Brighton, Birmingham and London Pet Shop Boys rescheduled twice - now 2022!
And what excites me the most is full intention to see Starlight Express in Bochum and both Cats and Miss Saigon in Vienna as soon as the stars of continental arts reopening and international travel align! Vive La Mega-Musicale!
If all the above happens, I'll be a very happy bunny :-)

Just booked Lee Mead's 40th Birthday concert at the Palladium (10 June) - if it's anything like his London Christmas concerts, it'll be a fab evening and a great 're-start' to my theatre going.
Also: The Show Must Go On (rescheduled thrice!) Hairspray (awaiting voucher to rebook) Come From Away (maybe - booked for 19 June, no longer on sale but no word re cancellation) Singin' in the Rain Anything Goes Love Letters (the musical at Queens, Hornchurch not the play at Royal Haymarket!) Plus Tim Minchin and a couple of concerts at the Stables (MK) - Gretchen Peters and Elkie Brooks.
For now.

I have a ticket for the rescheduled Steve Martin and Martin Short show at the RAH, and also the rescheduled New Order show at the O2, and that’s just about it: I’ll wait until people can actually go into theatres before looking to book anything else.

Come From Away (maybe - booked for 19 June, no longer on sale but no word re cancellation) It's cancelled, reopening currently planned for the 21st. I called ATG a couple of days ago and they told me and moved me to the 21st.

But a small thing in the grand scheme of things.
