Well a worthy successor I am sure. Saw Bernadette in Gypsy on Broadway and in her recent concert here and she is the star a show like this needs and demands after Bette.

I find Victor Garbor so boring. And Bernadette..I don't know. I'm just not that thrilled by this. I'd very much rather see the divine Donna Murphy, but she also just posted her final performance dates. I suppose she's viewed as Bernadette's peer and equal in many ways, so this gig would not be a good career move for her any longer.

La Midler is such a class act:
“I cannot imagine leaving Dolly Levi in better hands than those of Bernadette Peters. She has created more historic roles in more legendary musicals than any living Broadway star, and most of the dead ones, too. I cannot wait to see her in the show from my very expensive premium seat in Row G which I know I will have to pay for. She is joining the greatest group of people I have ever worked with, and when my run in this amazing show— and in this amazing part—is over, I will miss all of them more than I can express. I know they will take care of her the way they have taken care of me—with the heart and generosity they have shown me since day one of rehearsal.”

Yes, what a lovely way to announce you are leaving a role. Shows what a genuine type of person she is . Always nice that you acknowledge your co stars and the team you work with.

Awww, good for him. That's an absolutely perfect role for him and hopefully a great springboard for his career on Broadway too.

I was lucky enough to see this last week and absolutely loved it! Bette Midler and Gavin Creel were fantastic and the sets and costumes were beautiful.

Carol Channing has never had an appealing voice, so the casting of Bernadette in the role doesn't surprise me (though I personally really like Bernadette!).

Booked a middle Balcony seat for March for $49...checked the view online before I booked, and it actually looks like a better view than some of the Mezz seats which were more than double the price.
Always wanted to see Bernadette in a show, so knowing my luck she will probably be out the night I go.

Always wanted to see Bernadette in a show, so knowing my luck she will probably be out the night I go. Bernadette is not really known for missing shows these days, I don't think. Earlier in her career, I think she was guilty of missing shows, but she was extremely reliable in Gypsy after falling ill during previews (her run was over a year, I think) and I don't think she missed a single performance during her runs in Night Music and Follies. Unless you're incredibly unlucky, you should be fine.

If anyone is looking at going to this but only finding premium seats available I’d recommend checking Telecharge regularly for returns. I checked probably 3 times per day for about 3 weeks and eventually saw a more reasonable (in comparison) side mezzanine seat appear and snapped it up immediately
Saw the show on Friday night - this really is the epitome of Broadway, and Bette was even more incredible than I was expecting. I thought I was going to lose a contact lens during the dinner scene!
