I saw this production this afternoon, it really was something rather special. Was surprised how overwhelmed with emotion I was. The songs soared and sounded incredible in the Cathedral.
More over it just makes me even more mad that Disney hasn't staged this. It's a fabulous stage adaptation, full of beautiful songs. It's similar in tone to Les Mis, I don't get why they don't just market it that way.
At any rate, I definitely think we'll be seeing more of the talented young performers in future shows, especially George Dennett who played Frollo x

I think the reason Disney are reluctant to stage it in the West End or Broadway is because it's not family friendly, they'd be better off licensing it to one of the subsidised theatres or somewhere like the Bridge.

It is that unfortunately, Stephen Schwartz said as much when he was asked at "An Evening with" Average Joe sees a Disney show and expects family fun, suitable for young kids. Hunchback is neither lol But definitely, there needs to be a full out production somewhere please! X |

Someone from Disney Theatrics did fly in to see this, so there is hope for a future life for Hunchback!

It's not really their sort of thing but I would love to see the Open Air Theatre tackle Hunchback in the next few years.

It so deserves a full London life. As others have said, if they marketed it as 'The Hunchback Of Notre Dame - The Musical' rather than 'Disney's The Hunchback Of Notre Dame', making Disney's name quite small on the posters, I think it would then draw the right crowd and do well. Families would hopefully get the message to stay away. The only kiddie-appealing song is Topsy Turvy, and you don't even get the singing gargoyles from the film in the stage version (although I did love them).
How they'd begin to cast it, I just don't know...Patrick Page and Michael Arden are just brilliant and set a very high standard!

I was recently at Pippin and sat next to a lovely lady who was one of the trustees at the NYMT. She was talking about this production and said how wonderful it was.
Would have loved to have seen it.
