From an email received today the NT have launched a subscription service to watch productions in the comfort of your own home. From £10 a month (which you can cancel at any time). NT members get 1 month free.
I've just signed up for the free month and having a look there appears to be an interesting selection - YERMA and Mosquitoes are the standouts for me.

Also received the e-mail, been wanting ages for this and glad that it is now here.
Was slightly disappointed by the initial selection and assume more will become available when the ‘repeat fees’ are sorted, will take up the initial free Members month and then dip in and out as the new shows are added.

National Theatre Live productions
Amadeus (2016)
Michael Longhurst's production stars Lucian Msamati as tortured composer Salieri and wowed on both occasions that it played the Olivier stage.
Coriolanus (2014) with Tom Hiddleston
Josie Rourke's brutal, bloody version of Shakespeare's war-time play starring Tom Hiddleston was a bona fide hit at the Donmar and well worth repeat viewing.
Medea (2014)
The version of the Greek classic stars Helen McCrory (of Peaky Blinders fame) as a mother who commits the unthinkable.
Othello (2013)
Sam Mendes' version of the Shakespeare play stars Adrian Lester and Rory Kinnear. High-octane, tragic and big-budget stuff.
Phèdre (2009)
Back where it all began – the first National Theatre Live show featured Helen Mirren, Dominic Cooper and Ruth Negga. A major throwback opportunity.
The Cherry Orchard (2011)
A dose of Chekhov comes courtesy of Zoë Wanamaker and Conleth Hill (who was a solid presence in Game of Thrones).
Yerma (2017)
One of the most charged, impressive plays to be staged in recent years, Simon Stone's award-winning revival about a woman tortured by the fact she can't have a child featured an unparalleled turn from Billie Piper.
National Theatre Archive productions
These are shows that were never seen in cinemas – or anywhere, for that matter.
Dara (2015)
Nadia Fall directs the epic drama about dynastic conflict in Mughal India, which wowed when it played in 2015. The piece also featured an early turn from the fantastic Anjana Vasan.
I Want My Hat Back (2015)
Arthur Darvill and Joel Horwood (The Ocean at the End of the Lane) collaborated on this new musical back in 2015 where it was a lovely, pleasant hit. You can read our review here.
Mosquitoes (2017)
Olivia Colman's latest stage appearance (before she became the one Queen to rule us all) came in Lucy Kirkwood's brilliant drama, which was staged in the Dorfman. One of the hottest tickets of recent memory.
Three Sisters (2019)
Inua Ellams adapted the most recent offering on the At Home list – a galvanasing take on what is normally a play dedicated to the idea of life's lethargic ways.

Mosquitoes, brilliant! I thought it said could be viewed through TV via Roku this morning but I have yet to discover how, or found any mention of it further into the site.

I raved over Medea and Othello.
I’m a bit concerned about having to pay- obviously I will when i want to after free month - but some kids would like to see this stuff and will the parents let them? Maybe to keep them out of their hair for a while. I remember seeing theatre stuff, poorly filmed but brilliantly acted on the telly when I was a young teenager. It was usually and luckily put on the night my parents went out. So I could gorge in peace ( only one screen then, folks, the family telly in corner of living room) so I would hate to think of a kid like me missing out on this stuff so tantalisingly close, spesh the poor little ones who don't live in London as I didn’t then.

IIRC, the educational version of this is quite a big larger, and they must have an enormous catalogue. Wouldn't be surprised if a whole lot more became available around about the end of this free month.

Thanks smallperson for clearing that up. I asked them the question as to whether we could use our credit for this on twitter and they haven't answered. Such a shame. I was allowed to use some of it to renew my membership but it would be great to have the option of using it for this or the shop. |

Ohhh let us non members how it looks please, I've been wanting to see Othello again for ages so good to know it's an option, otherwise I'd be hoping for quite a bit more to be added, the archive stuff gives it an extra excitement level.

It is mentioned in the faqs section. Thanks - I tried searching the Roku's Vimeo for National Theatre at Home but nothing came up. I can watch on my computer but I'd like to be able to screen it through the telly so mum can watch. The archive recording of Mosquitoes is good quality - the sound's a bit variable and it doesn't have the NT Live TV-style editing / shots but it's great to see it again. |

Sorry - that was weird! My reply failed to post - just the quote! I said: As the Box Office explained to me. So that is why I said I was disappointed not that I was cross. As I am shielding (well - I was, then I wasn't and now it seems I am again!) I am advised not to go out more than absolutely necessary so live theatre is out for a bit.

Wow. This is fab. The picture & sound quality certainly varies massively between those plays originally recorded for the cinema, and those for the archive, but it's a wonderful way to see some old productions again.
Hopefully they get enough of an audience to make it worthwhile, and keep putting up great productions. What's everyone else hoping for in the coming months? For me, the top of the list would be to see The Flick and An Octoroon again (although the former may suffer from watching in the living room), Angels in America, and would love to see the NT's production of Dark Materials.
I now suspect that I'm signed up to way more streaming services that any single household could reasonably get through...

I got gifted a six month membership and logged on the other day. Whirred a lot on the platform i was on so swapped to chrome and worked fine. Not an enormous amount available currently and a fair amount of that was previously available elsewhere. I will watch Othello but now in that stage of thinking 'what if it isn't as good as i remember'.
