Idina has always been committed to new works, I don't think she's ever been in a revival, except for one-off concerts of Hair, Chess and Funny Girl. Plus she's not a dancer, and I doubt she wants to play a role in Sutton Foster's shadow. I suspect you're right, but I can dream..!

Ever seen her live? Potty mouth. And that was with a bunch of tiny Elsas in the front rows. My favourite interview of hers is when she says she never swears but then swears about four times in the following sentence. EDIT: Oh, I thought we were talking about Idina as well.

Wasn’t she the most well paid West End star in history when she came over here to do Wicked?

Also, great for a woman to have that status as the "top banana", with all the pay inequality going on across every industry. I'd pay Cabaret prices to see her if I absolutely had to. It's all a pipe dream of course, but whatever she is doing in town I'll be there. I think she is a star, an actual bonafide star. She's got "it" - what I want from a leading lady. Idina is unique - love or hate her, she is one of a kind.

She was magnificent as Elphaba and I loved her Maureen in Rent, but nothing since has come close. Talk of how ill disciplined she was for the ‘Chess’ thing at the Albert Hall also puts me off. Never believe your own press . I can’t really think of anything I’d like to see her tackle. Maybe Beverley Bass in CFA.

She has a good voice and amps up the vocal embellishments rather than find genuine emotion most of the time. There's a reason she never really had films come calling for her.

I think the only film I've seen her in is Enchanted.

I’m going to one of the weekday matinees in Bristol so I’ll make sure to give an early review of the new cast. I’ll be on hair-tucking watch with Kerry as well!

I'm at the tour opening night in Bristol.
I have to say I preferred Gary over Simon, he just isn't doing it for me as Witney.
Also Denis just isn't as good as Robert Lindsay. He may settle into the role as it goes on this being the start, but the chemistry between Sutton and Robert was much better than between Kerry and Denis.
Kerry is fantastic though. Any doubts about her dancing people may have are unfounded after that end of Act 1. She smashed it out of the park.
Bonnie Langford is sorely wasted in this show though. Evangeline has so little to do really and I thought Felicity was really good in London and whilst Bonnie is fine, it is such a waste of her talent to be lumbered with the role.
Roll on act 2.

Yes to all of this. Just got in after a fantastic evenings entertainment. Kerry was sensational. Relaxed, classy, dancing was fantastic. Just great. Dennis is still finding his feet; a fair few line stumbles and started coming on for his bow about 3 people too early. Bonnie great as expected, Simon fine, the rest all great. It’s all light as a feather, but so enjoyable. I have NEVER seen a Bristol audience give mid show applause like they did for ‘Blow Gabriel Blow’. I have also never seen a performer break the fourth wall so visibly as Kerrys internal but actually external ‘yessss! at getting through it.

Did this have the full 15 piece band like in London or have they axed the musicians for this tour as well?

The performance at the Oliviers was wonderful.

What a joy to have this show back after its triumph last year.
Few little tweaks to make it easier to tour - Whitney and Moonface's cabins come on from the back of the stage rather than the wings (assuming due to space) and the steps to the ship are now from the wings, but otherwise pretty much the same from the Barbican (and I imagine they'll revert back when they come back to town).
Kerry was terrific. We saw on Sunday night she can dance, and she did the full routine and then immediately came back in with the singing and barely broke a sweat. It all just sounds so great in her voice and it's so good she's leading a show again. I really loved You're The Top with her and Sam too - they're a great pairing. Denis Lawson made me miss Robert Lindsay a lot - he's not naturally funny really, so bits like Friendship and Bluebird don't really land (Friendship was a bit eggy but that's down to him rather than her - sure it'll settle). Bonnie is great with the little she has - it's so nice to see her let rip at the end of Blow Gabriel Blow. Simon Callow is quite doddery but it sort of works, and adds to the humour! And a delight to have the returning cast all back in supporting roles - I really love Haydn Oakley in this show, and Carly Mercedes Dyer still brings the house down with Buddy Beware (once Denis has settled in their double act stuff will work a lot better)
Whereas before Blow Gabriel Blow was the highlight of the show, I'd argue the end of Act 1 really is where Kerry is most comfortable - and it is so wonderful to have her back leading a show, and seeing just how much fun she's having with it!

Loved this last year at the Barbican so just had a look at dates in Liverpool. Looks like it’s selling really poorly there, and Manchester looks even worse.

The last tour of Anything Goes was cancelled early IIRC. It is not an easy sell (as a number of amateur companies can attest)

I'd like her to take over from Mazz in Mamma Mia tbh - those songs would sound great in her voice and (apart from Slipping Through My Fingers/Winner Takes It All) its not really an acting role.

I don't think she'd go from taking over from Sutton Foster in a big revival at the Barbican to being the 247th Donna in Mamma Mia though...

Well it's only Thursday night and they've sold out of programmes. I'm looking forward to the show starting soon but I couldn't even see a cast board up which is a shame. So if anyone who's been has a programme and no longer wants it let me know as I'd love to take it off your hands!

The cast board for the hippodrome is normally by the merchandise stand in the main entrance just before the stairs.
On the other side of the stairs is normally the run time poster and warnings of lights, noise, smoke etc.
Good to hear the people who are getting to the show are loving it.
