Well that was that...
Let's see if I can remember the dancers...
Max - wasn't bad but was not sharp enough. Nerves getting the better of him
Clara - was not keen on the choreo. Was not that well danced. Costume malfunction was a shame but the design really didn't do much for her.
Bill - great effort. A few clunky bits but done great bits too.
Maisie - I was bored. I tuned out. She is probably a decent dancer but she just isn't for me.
Jamie - was a big step forward and shows some potential
Jacqui - embarrassing. The swing was a clue as to how bad she is. Felt sorry fof her
JJ - Felt for him. Could see the effort but also the struggle. I think he is doing well. But this felt tough for him
Ranvir - flat footed. Pedestrian. Dull. Overmarked
Harvey (I like vowels) - some really lovely moments. He is a very natural mover. A finalist for sure.
Nicola - really lacking in actual dance content. Don't care about the story. Do care about the dance and there wasn't enough of it.
Caroline - a bit matronly. Not helped by the frock. She needs to stay around.
Jason - so much dad dancing. A tryer but not enough rhythm.
The judges seem to be being overly kind this year. More constructive feedback is needed.

The Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden has confirmed that film and TV production, as well as elite sport, will be able to continue behind closed doors.
Well we may at least get the rest of the series, but who knows?!!

I appreciate that they weren't doing a Halloween special but when Hvy and Jannette started their routine, did anyone else detect a 'Wicked' feel to it?
He came out, dressed in green, carrying a lantern, under the drapes and when the green lights came on I thought they're gonna dance to 'As Long As You're Mine'.
Despite her trying, Jacqui was just (way) below par. The spectacular fireworks were just to dazzle the viewer and mask how poor she was.
I thought the CGI animals during Bill & Otti's routine was quote novel.
I think Karen has a job on her hands to rein in Jamie's enthusiasm.
Finally, given how grim everything is right now, isn't this a bright ray of light?

Caroline Quentin’s quizzical “I’m pissed off but I’ll try to look like I’m receptive to criticism” face was the treat of the night. Suspect she thought she was significantly better than she was.

Just caught up with the episode. Enjoyed it but hated the CGI overkill in the Dolittle dance:sometimes the effects work nicely but those animals looked naff and very glitchy around the edges that it cheapened things and detracted. Woman in White, all is forgiven!
Jacqui...err no: just keep her swinging! I also felt a Wickedesqueness to HRVY and JNTT’s number: my fave pair after Caroline and Johannes even though she didn’t really shine this time. But I really want to see a lot more of her.

Loved that Halloween pros dance! It was so good!! I loved the story between Janette and the fortune teller. How are we all front about the bottom two this week? I'll be honest, surprised that Jamie is in there, but I have a feeling that he'll be alright 🤞.

I really hate to be critical- it's so easy to be an armchair critic (I'm not out there in front of millions of viewers strutting my stuff- but as much as she may have enjoyed it, is it possible that Jacqui actually was worse in the dance off?
(With the occasional exception) Anton has been lumbered with some casualties over the years, has he not?

I think Jacqui was very poor. Had she put in the hours? Or was it that with fewer contestants, she looked worse against better ones? Maybe they had planned a couple of other doofers who got dropped. It isn’t a show for amateurs is it? The contestants need musicality and a level of fitness not to mention some body consciousness. It isn’t a weight loss programme like it used to be. So Bill has movement and music ability and by the sound of it works very hard. But he is also in the business and everyone in the business, dance classes as a kid or no, can ‘sell’ him/herself. Basic. And the sports guys are competitive to the extreme, hence their success in Strictly over the years. Without saying I think it is obvious who will be in the final and maybe even who will win.

I appreciate that he is vey young and whilst I imagine that he must feel pretty pleased with his performance (I know I would be if I were him) but in his little green suit and hair combed over, with that smile, HVY looked like the oldest Von Trapp boy.
Either that or Rolf, Liesel's boyfriend.

If she had shown any promise, they would have not been so keen to get shot of her. You also have to factor in that the producers want Anton to retire so engineering an early exit helps that plan. But at the end of the day she couldn't dance. And she does not have a warm personality. She was never going to succeed.

We're getting Caroline Quentin's Mama Rose this weekend as their couples choice it seems. Whether Johannes will be Gypsy, Baby June, Herbie or Tessie Tura remains unclear. Should be fun anyway.

Also factor in that this is a family friendly show designed to a very broad demographic.
There's (usually) a singer or actor of some description. Some sort of TV presenter, a TV celebrity, a comedian, a sporting personality- wherever possible- a politician and Anton always get the more 'mature' female to dance with.

Anton got to the final last year with thingy from Eastenders who was not an older contestant. He does tend to get people like Ann Widdecombe and Judy Murray and gets low marks but stays around for a number of weeks.
Nothing like that was going to be possible with JS who has zero rhythm and less coordination

I can only imagine how "eyes, teeth and tits" (am I allowed to say that? I'll edit if not!) that's going to be. It isn't the worst series for Anton to go out early in — another lockdown, and his wife at home alone with toddler twins. I presume he can be off until Christmas now.

And it is so blatant now, it is almost boring. Give the young sexy girl a Latin in a bright red dress, give the older non dancer something like a paso so she/he can really look ridiculous .... so great when they go against the set type. Will we see Nicola do a waltz this week? This people’s choice should be much later on when we have seen the measure of the person, seen what they are good at. And why give anyone a paso so early on? Also we never get the Argentine tango til the very end. Moan, moan, moan, sorry. I’ll try to be positive from now on.

I'm guessing that this weeks show won't have any audience, just judges and contestants? Wonder if they'll use canned audience noise?
That said, so far, they're making the best of a difficult situation so well done production!
One wee thing, IMHO, don't have the carousel of contestants in the Clauditorium, much better for Claudia to go downstairs and interview them from a distance at their tables. Just a thought, as I said, well done production

Just a thought, as I said, well done production We wondered about that, and thought it might be tricky to light it, depending on who was back in their seats it could look a bit empty. That or the tables are placed 2m apart and having Claudia walk between then isn't ideal.

Ridiculous set of scores tonight.
Can we stop the judges being nice and ho back to being honest?
27?? Not even worth 27 when there were 4 judges

Whoever thought that the Simpsons was a good theme should not be working on the show.
To a lesser extent, Clara was dancing a tango to what it obviously a cha cha song.
And PUT PEOPLE IN THE CORRECT SHOES FOR THE DANCES (specifically Nicola and HRVY, but there are others).
(I did enjoy some of it though, I promise!)

The scoring is now ridiculous and has lost all meaning. Most of tonight was not worth 8s and 9s.
The Simpsons idea was dreadful, not Max's fault but it was just 2 minutes of messing about.
And for once and for all, can someone please tell the judges that they should not be criticising the choreography when giving the celeb their feedback. That's the pro's fault. It drives me mad every year and it still happens (HRVY got two doses of it tonight from Craig and Shirley). They shouldn't be mentioning it. They should be critiquing the performance, not the content.
However everything was put right by seeing Aljaz in a James Bond suit and Gorka emerging from the sea in his trunks 😀😂😍

Looking at the individual dances...
Ranvir did not dance for large parts of that routine. Giovanni did a marvellous job of making her look better than she is.
Bill continues to improve. But the guitar section was clunky
Caroline was hampered by pedestrian choreo that had no oomph. Johannes looked good in his trousers...
Max was just mad. The routine was bonkers but not very dancey.
Harvey danced far better than a 21. He is the best male dancer in the group. But they were determined to knock him back.
Maisie was ok. Choreo didn't tell a consistent story. But she still annoys. Gorka is delicious
Nicola was all over the place. It was not well danced and the exaggerated masculinity is dull.
Jamie was all over the place and overmarked but he was entertaining
JJ was elegant and moving. Given his limitations he is impressing.
Clara had a strange look on her face throughout and it wasn't a tango for too much of the time.
Jason was awful. Not a hint of dance quality. He is clear favourite to leave, surely

No. The judges should be mentioning the choreography more often, not less. I know whether it is good or not because I know what the dances are supposed to be like, but most of the public don't. It is important that they know when a celeb is not actually doing hard choreography or even doing the basics of a dance, because the whole point of the show is that they are supposed to be learning ballroom and Latin. If that is lacking, then the pro dancer at fault should absolutely be called out for that, as there is no excuse. They shouldn't get away with making the celeb look flashy and impressive if they aren't actually doing the right dance. It might not be the celeb's fault but that doesn't matter, it's about the partnership. And it is only fair that celebs are made aware when the pro dancer is failing at their job. And equally to know when the routine was really tricky and they managed well!

And equally to know when the routine was really tricky and they managed well! True, but the feedback is generally worded and given to the celeb. 'What did you think of HRVY's performance?' 'There wasn't enough basic cha-cha'. That isn't fair. If they said 'what did you think of this team's performance?' 'HRVY your technique is improving but you need to work on timing. Janette, there wasn't enough cha-cha content in that routine'. That would be fairer.
