Mischief Theatre should stop doing anything digital, their shtick doesn't translate to video. Agree with this. I love their shows live but can't get through them on a screen and I'm not sure why.

I’d agree with the BBC stuff, rarely more than very mildly amusing, but I thought Mischief Movie Night In was great (depending on the scenario they’re given to work with obviously.) Haven’t seen Come From Away. I know people say how amazing it is, but the clips I’ve seen/heard just sounds like someone spoofing Irish/Riverdance-type music. I can’t take to it.

To be fair CFA isn’t about the music. It’s the feeling, the story & the stagecraft of it all. The music is nice but by no means the be all and end all.

I can't stand Patti lu Pone as a singer. She totally ruins the Les Mis original London cast recording for me, and is the worst Fantine I've had the misfortune to hear. I cringe listening to her and try to avoid having to do so. Can't understand the acclaim she gets but I'm used to having unpopular opinions.

I don’t think Carrie Hope Fletcher comes across as likeable whatsoever. She seems like the kind of person who would be elitist and really mean behind the fake sugary sweet public persona.

What got me really disliking her was after how she made many videos preaching about using makeup that were not tested on animals, she advertised a product on Instagram that is tested on animals and deleted any comments that challenged her on this.
That showed me who she really is, along with having felt for some time that she is painfully in denial over what a privileged life she had and continues to enjoy. Working class my arse.

The ‘Truth Hurts’ thread title doesn’t extend to making personal attacks on performers. I’m not saying we’ve got to that point with CHF… yet but I can see where this is going. Keep it light please. Eye rolling comments about CHF’s online presence are probably more suited to the Performers and Creatives thread. Comments about her acting/singing ability are suited to the relevant show thread. But personal insults about any performer (such as “she is mean”) are not allowed as our rules clearly say. Thank you

Not sure how to respond to this but why would I want to "finish her off"?
And if you don't like people having a grumble why are you coming into a thread like this? Also, having a grumble doesn't automatically mean people are being nasty or wanting to be.

I really can't see what was so awful about what I wrote?
For the sake of avoiding argument I'll not bother with this thread anymore. Doesn't seem anything other than relentless positivity is allowed.

Kinky Boots the film, without songs*, is much, much better than Kinky Boots the stage musical, with songs. I couldn't remember a single one by the time I stepped back onto the Strand.
*The film does have songs, but you know what I mean.

Most of the score for 'Matilda' is a bit of a bore for an adult to listen to.
Apologies to my fellow ladies, but the Narrator's songs in 'Joseph' somehow sit more comfortably in a man's vocal range.

It was honestly so much more enjoyable for me, though I'm not usually one to say "Give that role back to the men!". It definitely does sit more comfortably in a man’s range, but I think it’s actually much more exciting to hear it belted by a female. Plus the show needs an exciting and dynamic female lead vocal to counterbalance all of the male vocal sections.

I wholeheartedly agree with you about the Matilda score. Other then ‘When I Grow Up’, I find it incredibly uninteresting. I don’t agree about Joseph, though. A female narrator brings some variety, and NO ONE beats Linzi Hateley! 😀

Once Jon Robyns has exhausted every male role in Les Mis, perhaps he could try some of the female ones? Find a new show already.
Although it is the only notable song in ‘Matilda’, I could never work out a narrative reason for ‘When I Grow Up’ to exist in the show.
And on the subject of Tim Minchin, Groundhog Day took a brilliant movie and reduced it to a vulgar, charmless pile-up, again with only one decent song (Seeing You). Andy Karl had no warmth whatsoever which didn’t help. Presumably he was cast solely for the hubristic transfer to Broadway, but there were so many British performers who could have made the show infinitely better. The 20min long sequence sequence with the Karl on the revolve while another character contemplated suicide ( which may have also included the resuscitation of a tramp with frostbite) was one of the worst things I have ever seen in my 40yrs of theatre going.

Apologies, you’re quite right it was a nomination, not an award. I was under the impression this was an opinion thread and didn’t use the phrase ‘Daring to stay in a job’. I’d just like to see JR shake it up a bit and try out the role of Fantine or Perhaps Madame Thenardier at this point. Have a nice day.

Nobody in the West End looks convincing when doing a ball scene. I suspect years ago this wasn't so much of a problem because people were actually used to partner dancing, but nowadays it's obvious that they might be brilliant contemporary/tap/hip hop dancers but give them another person and it all looks a bit awkward.
Also, sorry ensemble, but I'd rather cut your choreographed bows if it means we can have exit music. I've seen/heard plenty of you and want to listen to just the musicians.
