Okay
Today we hear the terrible news, that someone from our community has lost their life, the appalling news that Nick Cordero has died from Covid, he was in Bullets Over Broadway and A Bronx Tale, he was only 41 and goes to show that Covid doesn’t just take old or weak people.
Also today we learned a tad better news that Kate Garraway’s husband Derek Draper has regained consciousness and he is in a minimum state of consciousness, where Covid has caused absolute havoc with his body.
Both Nick and Derek are absolutely terrible and shows how this virus shouldn’t be taken for granted.

Knew it would not last long, BOJO the clown rides in and blames care home owners for the high death toll as they did not follow the weak procedures* introduced which required the PPE the Government were unable to supply in the numbers required to look after the hundreds of infected elderly discharged from Hospitals. *As late as 25 February, the Government was advising care homes it was "very unlikely" they would be hit with the virus and guidance, which has since been withdrawn, said care home staff did not need to wear face masks. Of course. His entire government is basically little more than an ongoing exercise in deflecting blame. They know thousands have died unnecessary deaths as a result of political choices they made at the start of the pandemic, just as they know nothing positive can possibly result from Brexit, and so the priority now is to make sure the blame falls literally anywhere but on their own heads. And unfortunately there are still plenty of people gullible enough to fall for it.

the daily deaths figure is hard to find coronavirus.data.gov.uk/#category=nations&map=caseAlso offers a download of cases broken down by days and local authorities so you can load it into a spreadsheet and see how many cases there are in your area from day to day.

My guess is the next step if blaming the home managers doesn't work is blaming the workers - who a disproportionately from minorities.

Derek Draper was hardly high risk category unless he was a smoker. Okay he was a biggish guy but no more so than many of us and certainly not what I'd class as obese. Poor Kate's life could almost be on hold for years and they have two children whose life must be in total limbo. Their son I think must be going to secondary school this autumn as she mentioned him going back to school and their daughter is probably going to start her GCSEs soon so they must be in a right state too. Does poor Kate try to get back to work if Derek starts to improve or does she just stay at home and wait?

Does anyone know what regulations the major TV channels are following regarding having older presenters/actors in the studio going forward?
I've heard that Corrie and Emmerdale won't have anyone over the age of 70 on set which rules out close to a dozen actors on those shows and what about people approaching 70 - Helen Worth turns 70 early next year so does she suddenly potentially then only appear via Skype/Teams?
Janet Street-Porter who is 73 was back in the Loose Women studio today after appearing remotely for several weeks and I've noticed some over 70 local newsreaders ( Nick Owen being one are now back in the studio)

Through I am not sure if Helen Worth has returned to filming anyway - going by what Ben Price has said she might be on the excluded for now list.
All broadcasters seem to be following a rule that if you healthy, willing and able to travel in safely being in your 70's is safe enough to return.

There will be new advice coming out soon which will be quite different. The likelihood is that, now we know more about who it affects, there will be risk scores for individuals.
So, if you are male, have the issues that are now acknowledged as important (not using the blunt 'flu jab' criteria from before), are from a non white background and have a high BMI, them that will be seen as important as age is. Looking at the one being used in Wales, age will factor in a sliding scale for fifty and over.
So, if these ladies have no underlying conditions, they are probably less at risk than many people much younger than them.

Marks and Spencer still unable to put the legs on ordered furniture so I think my dad will cancel - god knows where we will get a new sofa as shopping with him is a nightmare - he seems to think it's only M and S refusing but everywhere else is unaffected.
To make things worse the man in the store yesterday said they do but he (and the signs in the store) was mistaken.

Boris’s latest faux pas in blaming care home deaths on care home managers as a result of not following guidelines(!) has caused quite the stir this morning. He’s put his foot in it again!

Are the care centre managers at fault for hospitals releasing patients with Covid into care homes?

That's a show where the contestants and presenters are spaced well apart anyway, it just needs a bit of adjustment with Dictionary Corner.

Bit concerning my GP'S practice are using this to move to a 100% online booking system it seems - despite having plenty of patients with zero internet access - who are more likely to be vulnerable anyway. I feel that internet take up has reached it's limit and most adults not online will never go online.

All correct but this government would relish universities taking it to court to be able to admit more overseas students - they be able to exploit it heavily as part of the red wall strategy. Northern universities attract a lot of Chinese students, and Liverpool and Manchester have long-standing British-Chinese populations (the oldest in Europe). I don't think picking on young Chinese people would play well up here either. Thinking about it more it's more likely it will be China itself banning it's Nationals from studying in the UK rather than the UK banning their entry.

When you see how much more seriously countries in East Asia take safety, their seeing the slapdash effort here, with far too many thinking even that is beneath them, isn’t going to to make us a safe destination for a while. Easier for government to deny responsibility for that, though.

Through China themselves arguably didn't always take safety that seriously - otherwise the world probably wouldn't have the virus (And after Sars China has been seen as being somewhere likely to see a virus with pandemic potential emerge.)
My dad through thinks the UK death toll has been falsified by civil servants to slander Boris - he is a staunch Boris fan who thinks it's treasonous to be hostile to him. Some people can be very odd.

China (apart from being anti-democratic) has the issue of being many countries, and I don’t necessarily mean that in a regional way. The modern China is pitted against a sclerotic existing system. The old ways, as we’ve seen with food safety, massively behind when compared to other areas.

I keep reading people being rejected from a testing because they are using credit checking to comfirm identity. Turns out i'd be refused even though I am on the electrol roll and have a student loan.
