Manchester seems to be doing it primarily through local pharmacies now. The big vaccination centre at the Etihad stadium is still in operation but none of the mass inoculation centres used for jab 1 and 2 were offered to me on the booking system. Just pharmacies.

I’ve noticed that the booster is now on the NHS app. What on earth do people do if they have no smart devices? Bad enough having to gently guide OH to download the app etc. I’m not a techie ( as we know) so it was a bit of challenge for me but loads of people won’t have any proof of the vaccination unless they apply for letters from the NHS. GPs have it on their records of course so can ask them for proof but this won’t help as it won’t conform to what is required for travel abroad etc. I do think they should have given out recognised cards on vaccination, the little ones not acceptable apparently. Oh well, onward and upward, eh? Just keep well guys. All the rest is dressing… Many GP’s won’t give letters either. They will simply instruct their patients to access via a smartphone or desktop computer where they can print out proof.

The systems between NHS England and NHS Wales apparently don't match up when it comes to the app, so although my GP records have transferred over and my GP knows when I was vaccinated, the NHS app/website no longer does. I need a Covid pass for entertainment/leisure in Wales because the law is different here, and I can't get one now :S

Might be the best way to raise attention to the issue.

I looked at the covid deaths today & found myself thinkng "165, not too bad for a Tuesday, they've been over 200 some Tuesdays recently". It's ghastly how we get used to things. Back in January 2020 I was horrified reading about one or two people dying of covid. Now over a hundred a day is sort of accepted. I feel horribly guilty.

TBH there is a reason general public dont read the death rates on a daily basis. Covid is just another cause of death now I'm not saying you're wrong about the reason for public indifference, but most other 'routine' causes of death aren't contagious. You smoke and die of lung cancer? Doesn't impact me so I wouldn't necessarily care about death rates on a personal level. You don't get vaccinated, don't wear a mask and die of COVID (after infecting how many other people)? I could be one of those unlucky other people, so I do care!

My friend in Austria is telling me about the antivax Facebook campaign - Go out and protest, take an umbrella and wear boots. The umbrella will protect you from the military showering down vaccines. The boots will stop people crawling through drains and injecting you in the ankle.

It’s likely there will be a Circuit breaker in the new year in the uk.

This is the first time the UK itself has banned flights from anywhere I think. This variant must be very very concerning. South Africa is not that well vaccinated so it could be horrific there. It will take a couple of weeks through to work out how much vaccine effectiveness is reduced by it.

It’s likely there will be a Circuit breaker in the new year in the uk. I think Plan B is more likely than a lockdown. It would be wise for countries to donate some of their supply of the antivirals to Africa to help them deal with this variant.

Donate more vaccines to the area and continue vaccination/booster programme in the UK? Would anyone go any further than current policy?

Mandatory masks back in shops and all public transport (nobody would listen). Maybe mandatory track and trace.

Some of those people who think they just have a cold probably have Covid - the symptoms of the current variant, particularly in vaccinated people, are far more similar to colds than earlier variants, and the government, for reasons best known to themselves, don't seem to be interested in publicising this fact, or in changing the now outdated list of symptoms that qualify you for a free PCR test. Most people are still using LFT tests, which would pick it up if that was true. Most people also probably just have a cold. I saw today that according to the ZOE Covid Symptom Study, approx. a quarter of people with cold symptoms actually have Covid. I thought it was interesting and informative to put a number on it - a higher number than I would have guessed. It's likely to be a little lower than that in public, as some people will have been responsible and got tested and be isolating if it was positive, but food for thought, at any rate - especially as the government guidance still doesn't recognise the updated symptoms, or officially allow you to get a test on the basis of them.

We might have to through if this variant is worse case scenario. Or simply let thousands and thousands of people die.

This morning I managed to get a return for a matinee at the ROH tomorrow, after 2 days of website refreshing, and I was so pleased. This evening I read about the new variant and the 50,000 cases in the UK today & I'm back to being bloody terrified again & wondering if I should go down to London tomorrow or not. Every time it looks like something will happen that will make me less scared of covid (booking my 3rd jab for Christmas Eve) then like a slap in the face something happens that makes it absolutely terrifying again (new variant).

You mean the Government might be forced to do what they have never done to date - have a lockdown that is strictly enforced? In essence, we have never had a lockdown, not really, not compared to how strict other countries committed to it.

Deciding this new Covid is bullsh*t for mental health reasons. Putting it in the pay no mind space. Back to partying

Deciding this new Covid is bullsh*t for mental health reasons. Putting it in the pay no mind space. Back to partying Without judging you I do fear people might end up dying because too many people have that type of attitude to this variant. It’s just too early to say how dangerous or not it will be.
