But cases seem to be going down ...... Hospital admissions and deaths are going up.

Hospital admissions and, to a greater degree, deaths always lag behind cases. But also, confirmed cases lag infections, and the current drop in cases is still probably largely due to the half term last week. Give it another week, and we'll start to see if it's a trend or just a blip.

Give it another week, and we'll start to see if it's a trend or just a blip. And every day the figures seem to vary more. The other day it looked like the decline was slowing down like it did in September when it was declining before rosining again. Today through was quite a big week on week drop.

But cases seem to be going down ...... I’m not sure what help Plan B will be really Oh I was being sarcastic. Cases are going down without restrictions so zero justification for them

The only way to get most of the population to wear masks was to tell them that wearing it protected yourself and not others.
Humans are selfish. We would all wear them if we were told it significantly lowered our own personal al risk of catching Covid.

And prosecution for repeat offenders.

Or, cases are dropping like a stone now (25% week on week) Without a mask mandate. So it's not really needed

The biggest risk is if a vaccine busting variant emerges nobody will follow restrictions and then that is when the horror could come.

The biggest risk is if a vaccine busting variant emerges nobody will follow restrictions and then that is when the horror could come. That's not enough of a large enough risk for the restrictions to continue when cases are going down It is when people think 30k cases a day are nothing major. It was hard enough during 1000 deaths a week to get people in London to follow the rules. If a vaccine busting restriction comes people are not ready to cope with restrictions and people need to be prepared for that or we will have hell if it happens.

I don't think the restrictions rhe doomsters want are proportionate to that chance

I don't think the restrictions rhe doomsters want are proportionate to that chance 100% vaccine resistant, no. But we've already had at least one variant - Delta - that is significantly more vaccine resistant than the original virus. The chances of future variants chipping away at the effectiveness of the existing vaccines isn't especially low. That's what the flu does every year, which is why the vaccines need to be adjusted every year to keep up. I wouldn't be surprised if that's where we end up with Covid.

20% week on week reduction after schools are back.
Zero justification for restrictions.

You don't count week-on-week change by comparing a single day to the corresponding day a week earlier. You count it by comparing an entire week to the previous week. Week-on-week reduction today is 16.6%.
It is encouraging that the downward trajectory doesn't appear to be slowing, a week after half term ended. It's starting to look like a more sustained fall than in September. Hopefully it'll be below the September low by the end of the week.
Worth remembering that although new cases are dropping, an awful lot of people still have it - estimated around 1 in every 55-60 people across the UK with symptomatic cases; higher than at its previous peak in January - although this number also looks like it may have peaked and is now dropping.

There seems to be less asymptomatic cases recently. Most of the people announcing their diagnosis on Twitter appear to have mild (or worse) symptoms. A few months ago there was a lot of asymptotic people but it just feels like less now despite the vaccine.
The booster programme is still getting publicly rejected at a level that will sadly cause extra deaths - hopefully not to many.

About time too, I can't believe it took this long. I find this so sad. I think vaccines should be encouraged but NOT made mandatory. I have 2 close friends who are doctors and haven’t had the vaccine and don’t want it, and I respect their decision! They’ve made an educated decision that they want to wait until there’s more long term safety data and now they face either losing their jobs or being coerced into something they don’t want to do. I’m pro vaccine and so are they! But it should be everyone’s choice!

What about the patients' choice? Are they allowed to choose only to see doctors who have been vaccinated, in order to lower their risk of catching covid from a doctor? No, because they're not able to find out doctors' vaccination status. Also, apart from the increased covid transmission risk, I'm not sure I'd want to be seen by a doctor who's chosen not to be vaccinated because I'm not sure I'd trust their supposed-to-be-expert medical opinions.

I’d agree with you, if the vaccine stopped the spread of the virus. But it doesn’t. All it does is lower your individual risk of death or serious illness. So it should be an individual decision whether to take it or not. It’s completely unethical to force people to have a medical procedure. Lots of medics have made the decision to not be vaccinated yet. So what happens in April then when tens of thousands of medics lose their jobs and the NHS gets even more stretched? Cos I tell you now, forcing it on nhs staff wont do anything other than cause massive staff shortages. I’m very pro vaccine, I’ve had mine, I’ve told my friends they should have it, but it’s ultimately their decision as they have bodily autonomy. And I respect that decision as it’s an educated one.

The vaccine is the majority of cases appears to reduce your viral load which does reduce your chance of spreading it. I doubt that many will choose to give up their job once it comes in. Victoria in Australia is making it mandatory For all employees and they not expecting mass unemployment.

Hi Roxie, i'm not attacking you, or trying to... My view is, if everyone who can has the vaccine then the virus will die out quicker as more people are developing covid antibodies.
