When do people actually think bars and nightclubs will realistically be open without any type of restrictions as they used to be? Christmas 2021? 2022?

My nearest Empire cinema has decided not to reopen until the New Year, despite us being in tier 2, citing lack of new films etc. I can understand the big new releases wanting to hold off until more people want to/are able to return the the cinema, but the cinemas need the films as much as the films need the cinemas.
In contrast, my most local cinema is independently run, and are making a huge effort to stay open. They're showing films they had scheduled for November, and some old Christmas classics. I went yesterday and had a great time seeing A Christmas Gift From Bob. It seemed pretty busy, social distancing permitting, and when I rechecked the seating plan yesterday morning, there didn't seem to be much availability left.
I think it's up to all involved to try and get these industries back up and running. Yes, that might mean businesses running at a loss for a while, but if they all pull together they stand more of a chance of still being in business when all this is over. Getting out to the cinema did wonders for my mental health, and I hope to go again next week. Kudos to my local cinema for their efforts!

I had two shows boooked in tier 3 areas between 16th-18th December. I had an email from both of them saying they had just found out the earliest that an area could move tiers was actually the 19th December with the tiers to be announcex on the 17th.
I've reboooked both for the 19th (different times!) and will be keeping everything crossed for moving to tier 2!

Interesting announcement from the world-famous Crucible Theatre this morning. Its Together Season continues into 2021 (if allowed) and begins with a new piece from Chris Bush who, of course, wrote the book for the award winning Standing at the Sky's Edge. "The Band Plays On looks at key moments from Sheffield's history through the eyes of its citizens and some of the most iconic songs this music city has to offer." I suppose if you find a formula that works, why change it?! 🙂 It's described, BurlyBeaR, as part concert, part play, so that should avoid any arguments later. 😉 Climb downs can be so embarrassing!

You handled the last one very gallantly TallPaul so don’t you worry about it! 😀

Anything on this website is essentially made up and designed to encourage as much outrage as possible. I'd also advise against clicking Daily Mail links as their cookies will then be saved on your browser and you'll be retargeted with their ads/content and ads they endorse, and the clicks drive their site traffic stats which continue to convince advertisers that its an organisation worthy of support (which it isn't). So if you don't read it how do you know it is esentially made up ? As far as anyone knows vaccination doesn't prevent you transmitting the virus (this was not part of any of the vaccine trials), just as having had Covid doesn't prevent you transmitting it either (hence you still have to self-isolate for 14 days if in contact), an immunity passport seems like a very stupid idea. Testing shorty before events would seem a more appropriate approach.

Loans, on favourable terms, rather than grants, have been offered to what we may think of as the 'Crown Jewels' of the arts, including the National Theatre, Royal Opera House, ENO, RSC, Southbank Centre and Royal Albert Hall.
Michael Harrison and London Theatre Company (AKA Bridge Theatre) are also on the list.
£19.4 million to the RSC, and £19.7 million to the National Theatre.

With my job being so unpredictable I typically rely on rush/last minute tickets and single seats, usually a spur of the moment kind of thing to go in and see something rather than advance planning. Finding it very hard to get anything with the limitations on capacity and single seats at the moment. Can't wait for the day the capacity/social distancing rules are dropped and we can be crammed in, filling all those single seats, once again.

Makes you wonder if we’ll ever moan and groan about audiences/comfort/bar prices ever again! 😀

Audiences seem to be better behaved and definitely a lot less coughing, are we all embarrassed to cough in public, everyone looks round immediately and considers you a plague carrier.
COVID or not I will continue to complain about Theatre Bar prices, £7 for one of those tiny bottles of wine at the Vaudeville and Duchess are as extortionate as ever.

Just to keep the theatre talk out of the Coronavirus General Discussion thread and in the right place, here's the news that theatres are closing from tomorrow:

Just to keep the theatre talk out of the Coronavirus General Discussion thread and in the right place, here's the news that theatres are closing from tomorrow: Very sad news for everyone involved. Thousands of people can still congregate in shopping areas like Oxford Street with minimal social distancing and few wearing face masks but nobody can sit in a carefully socially distanced theatre or restaurant. Doesn't make sense to me.

Yes, because Tier 3 doesn't affect shops, only hospitality/entertainment.

All shops stay open in Tier 3. So this might not even make a difference.
I'm getting really tired of trying to have some sort of a life and every single time whatever I'm planning is taken away. Haven't been able to do anything this year and now probably won't get to the theatre in January and god knows about February. It's not like I'm planning massive parties or holidays, it's all been fairly quiet small stuff. God knows what the people who keep trying to reopen their businesses and venues are feeling like now.

If there is a more virulent strain as Hancock just said, keeping retail open for the next week seems a major oversight, shops are where I feel the least safe and only visit for food shopping these days.

Opened a show last week, now shut this week. Temperature checks on entrance, track and trace, one way systems, at seat drinks service, perspex screens, auditorium cut to over half capacity, not allowed to see anyone outside the show team, so much effort and money poured into it and it's gone. This is the second time this year Covid-19 has stopped my show soon after press. So much has been done to make theatres safe, the fact retail is carrying on whilst we are being snuffed out makes me so incredibly angry.
