No surveys for me. Who do I need to sleep with?

No surveys for me. Who do I need to sleep with? I think his name was Timothy, or was it Christopher? Honestly, I was so mesmerized by his baby blue eyes and wavy hair that it could have been Bob or Al. I do remember he had a clipboard ... or was it handcuffs? Goodness my memory really fails me here. I am sure that a survey was involved. It might have had something to do with theatre, but really who knows at this point?

I love the Jake bit - gave me a laugh! I think we'd all be supporting that move.

The pubs I go to are mainly for eating rather than drinking so people tend to be fairly spread out, but my limited experience of Wetherspoon's is that what food they offer is really cheap so it's mainly a place for standing in tightly packed crowds drinking, which is probably the very last thing we need.

There is no way they will be allowed to open yet nor for some time to come I guess. The arrogance of some is galling to say the least. He won't be the one to decide when he will be able to open.

A friends son got a student job in one. Apparently the only item that isn't cooked in the microwave is steak. My folks love it as its cheap. I generally slip into moody teenager mode and moan. The food is crap as its very unloved however they do have a good selection of beer but give me a proper pub anyday

Liverpool were in a pickle as uefa rules meant they could only close the entire stadium not just away fans. UEFA are currently noting all the countries cancelling leagues and plaining to shun them for big events in the next 10 years or so.

I'm planning on staying away from Wetherspoons, because despite the cheap food and drinks, I'd rather spend a bit more and be in a nice country pub somewhere. Also, Spoons will be the most crowded pubs and I'm not sure I'd feel especially safe (mind you given the clientele in there sometimes I'm not sure I ever did feel safe!) Some of my favourite theatres are above pubs, like Hoopla Impro in London Bridge, or the Finborough. I hope they make it through. Certainly when I do go back I'll be buying more drinks than I usually did!

City break travel seems like it wont come back much at all - at least for the older audiences who don't want to travel on a train or car around europe.

Whilst it's understandable that theatres/companies want to keep in touch with their audiences and nurture these relationships during lockdown (and seek support), I'm tiring of their endless emails and tweets and have now started unsubscribing from/unfollowing a few of the most clamorous. I also appreciate that some here might welcome these but as someone who isn't interested in streaming/catch-up/etc, I don't want to know unless/until live performances resume in some form, in a normal venue. Fine if it's a long or indefinite wait but leave me in peace in the interim and stop reminding me of what I'm missing.

I also just don't really get the feels for the streamed stuff. Unless they start coming out with the big guns (filming of Phantom and Les Mis in Her Majesty's/Queen's), which of course isn't gonna happen, then it just doesn't do it for me. Out of all the DVDs of musicals I have the only one I really watch repeatedly is the Cats 1990s one - and that's cos it's so similar to the stage show. But yes, sadly all the online stuff is no substitute for live theatre!

^showgirl and Dom have nailed it...I’m with loads of agencies, seat fillers sites etc and they are all sending out the exact same info...five separate reminders about Lloyd Webber’s concert being on tonight from five different agencies...wouldn’t mind but I’ve already seen it and clips are all over the net anyway. Understand that theatres are trying to stay in touch but there is no substitute for live theatre and there will be no return to it for five-six months,I reckon.

I'm getting the masses of emails too but luckily they are in an email account that I call my junk emails. Of course it gets theatre booking confirmations in it but they are easy to find with a quick search. In general I only use the account for any website I have to sign up to for some reason or another. It means my actual emails are kept nice and empty (especially at the moment) clear of all the stuff I really don't need to read. I do check the "junk" account daily but I've not been opening many of them at all. So I'll happily stay subscribed to them all as they don't currently bother me.

Interesting piece in the Observer tomorrow about the success of the new Trolls film, released online only and making as much in three weeks as its predecessor did in its entire cinema run. The figures are skewed because not much else is getting released at the moment, but it'll be interesting to see how indie films fare in this new landscape - pre-lockdown, they'd only be shown in a few select arts cinemas outside London and in the case of things like The Lighthouse, I think it was only one week, on one city centre screen, in my home city, and that some time after the publicity interviews so it had lost some momentum by then. However, Calm with Horses is already online and available to all along with all the publicity, interviews, what would have been London-ticket-only Q&A events etc.. Meanwhile, the NT Live Frankensteins have already clocked up 1.7 million views - how many saw it live and through cinema NT Live? I know we've already discussed issues around this in threads last year, but these productions are clearly reaching new audiences - and surely creating future audiences - and I'm really hoping this will change the thinking around making productions more widely available pay-per-view after the original run or whatever.

The stuff being released online is more than welcome. Maybe they aren't the big shows but for me personally it's given me an opportunity to catch things that i'd missed, in one case in gave me the opportunity to see something i'd booked for but ended up being cancelled because of Covid and it's given me the opportunity to watch things i wasn't interested enough to go and see physically and pay for but have enjoyed being able to see them online. You can't criticise these things being released. Any for of entertainment being made available at a moment where you have to spend every day inside is a good thing and surely even better if it's theatre.
