Confirmed Theatre Cancellations.

Coronet closed until further notice -

We have all been watching as the COVID-19 pandemic has evolved and impacted our lives. Like many other theatres, we at The Coronet Theatre want to do everything we can to protect the health and wellbeing of our audiences, artists, actors and theatre team while continuing to present outstanding drama, but have now taken the sad but necessary decision to cancel all performances of Afterplay. The theatre will remain closed until further notice. For those who hold tickets for future performances, we will contact you over the next few days with options to receive a refund, to credit the ticket price towards a future production, or help us by donating the price of the ticket. We are an unsubsidised venue, and whilst we completely understand that for some this will not be possible, we appreciate the support of those who can. We are paying close attention to the situation and government advice, and will re-open when it is safe to do so.

We wish everyone the very best for the difficult weeks ahead. We are working on ways to get some of our art to you in a safe and sound way - stay tuned.

We appreciate many of you have been waiting to hear our response to this tricky time we are currently facing globally. After careful consideration and in line with official Government advice of last night, stipulating that people should avoid public buildings including theatres to help slow the spread of coronavirus, from today we regret to announce Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse theatres will be postponing its shows at both venues until this advice changes.

As a public space, we have a duty of care to our audiences, our cast members and our staff. Your safety takes the utmost priority over our shows.

Northern Broadsides’ production of Quality Street at the Playhouse will no longer go ahead and you will be contacted in due course and are of course entitled to a refund.

As a registered charity and like many other theatres, we rely on goodwill and support to keep our theatres going. Some of our patrons and audience members have chosen to decline their refund in favour of supporting our charitable activities at this difficult time. If you felt you could do the same we would be eternally grateful. Our Box Office team will discuss the options with you when they contact you about your refund process.

Please bear in mind that our Box Office and other customer service teams are extremely busy and your patience during this difficult time is greatly appreciated. Calls will be made in performance date order.

Has the Hippodrome Casino made a statement yet? I’m meant to be seeing Sarah O’Connor at Lola’s downstairs next Sunday but I don’t see it going ahead obviously, just want to hear something official.

Even Qustion Time is now, losing their audience, moreover and I didn’t think of this at that is studio audiences, like the new Ready, Steady, Cook and The One Show. Would this put in doubt shows like the brilliant Chase and Pointless now?

Not only can we not go to the theatre, watch any sports and general participation television seems to being axed. So enjoy self your isolation, doing squat.

It's heartbreaking isn't it, reading the social media announcements from so many venues we know and love, where so many memories have been made, as they close their doors and face such an uncertain future.

As sad as it is to no longer have the chance to see some of the productions I’d booked for in the coming weeks, I’m mindful that in the scheme of things that disappointment is inconsequential compared to the circumstances of those who would usually be performing, working backstage or front of house, as well as those running venues or theatre companies, whose jobs, businesses and livelihoods are at stake.

The tweets from Rose Wardlaw, who was appearing in Blithe Spirit at Duke of York’s, was one example that really hit home with me last night about the impact yesterday’s events will have on those who find themselves suddenly unemployed.

Certainly, for those shows I had booked by smaller professional theatre companies in the coming weeks, such as The Wardrobe Ensemble’s Last of the Pelican Daughters and Colla Voce Theatre’s You and I, both at The Lowry, I won’t be seeking a refund for my tickets.

The last week or so has certainly made me realise how much we should appreciate everything (and everyone) we have. While uncertain and worrying times lie ahead, it’s the thought of getting back to the theatre later in the year that will provide hope of something to look forward to once we’ve weathered the Covid-19 storm. I’m thinking of this like an interval and hoping that it won’t be too long before the safety curtain is raised, the audience can re-take their seats, and the next act can begin.

Ready Steady Cook is already in the can so they can air. The Chase, Pointless already use a mix of new and repeats and I think The Chase has plenty of new episodes as they had to record them due to Bradley Walsh's Doctor Who commitment.
