Stunning! I mean, just wow. Sold. Yes it’s self-indulgent at the end, but all the ingredients are there. I’m sure it will come across beautifully on film. I’m more concerned about that appalling piano playing. Don’t even know what time signature they were in at the beginning. And Lloyd Webber very specifically chooses a bar of 10/8 on “if you touch me, you’ll understand what happiness is” and it’s always performed which such rubato, he may as well have not bothered.

that outfit was a choice though considering who Grizabella is.

I think J Hud sounds amazing from that clip although I’d personally prefer someone as Grizabella with a more pure sounding powerful voice than her, if that makes sense. Then again I’ve never been a Cats fan so I shouldn’t really even be giving my opinion! I’m sure she’ll smash it in the film, but please dear god please don’t let her get anywhere near an Oscars supporting actress nom for belting one song! 😆 I can see it happening .....

Also- the way she performed this here doesn’t mean it’s identical to how it will be in the film. That may be a less ‘Effie’ version

I’ll consider it a cat-astrophe if I don’t really fancy Rum Tum Tugger in this version. You’re doing the Lord’s work by sharing that. Utterly mesmerising.

Running time for Cats movie is three hours and 90 mins of that is for Jennifer Hudson to sing “look, a new day has begun”

I'm so conflicted by whether this is amazing or terrible- the gossip I've heard is crazy/ horrible/ baffling/ incredible.
I just hope Flan and Ouisa got their cameos!

So it’s the actor, with CGI fur and cat features. Not just voiceover on a CGI cat.

Sing what? Memory wasn't written in final form when she was in it, and she coped with "Cabaret" just fine, as the LP record (no auto-tune then) attests. Yeah Judi heard the first draft of it and suddenly got leg ache 🙂. (Sally Bowles isn’t supposed to be able to sing)

I don't like "Cats" yet I like this teaser. I'm now semi-interested. Guess they've achieved their first goal.

Cats is my least favourite musical and Taylor Swift ‘dancing’ is always pretty cringe, so I’m not sure this movie is for me 🤔 ... the production and set does look interesting though! 😜

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned this (haha) but I left at the interval. It was one of the absolute worst things I’ve ever seen.

It's the show that made me want to do what I do.
(Which is not peeing on kitchen floors or scratching up sofas).

Have to admit that I haven't been all that excited about this "film." Especially when someone had posted pictures of the original animated version they had done some drafts of (that looked really fascinating). But gotta give Universal Marketing an A+ on this. hearing the music (with new orchestrations) underneath the video with glimpses of a very, very different looking set then we've ever had with Cats - with a cast that seems to have been working hard and putting themselves into the roles (I was expecting it would be more computer generated, like the stupid iPhone app that makes people look like cartoon characters) - I was intrigued, possibly even excited about this. So well done Universal... so far. Let's hope the hype lives up to the final production.

I loved Cats, but what I loved about it was that it was all about the performance, the cast. Not the sets, the costumes and the budget. But I'm curious enough that I might see this. After all, we already have a recorded version of the show that's true to the original production. If they're going to create another one it's probably better to make it completely different.
I'm puzzled about the references to the story because there isn't much of a story in the original show, unless you include the bit about how when cats die they get stuck on the roof of the Russell Hotel.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the cast look like all catted up. I thought that 'behind the scenes' vid was interesting, especially the giant sets.

I think they're going to make more of the 'Don't scorn the scatty woman because she'll steal your seat in heaven' subtext but maybe play it as 'do as you will be done by'. I wonder whether how they'll do the ending, whether they'll have Griz ride the escalator up to the Heavyside Layer's first floor like the original, or have her abducted by aliens as per the more recent UK tour.

She’s done some good singings, and responsibly filled (and ridden) plenty of celebrity column inches, but credible musical theatre actress? I think not. It doesn’t even feel like one of those ‘lets wait and see’ jobs. Is she anything important in the film? Is there anything important at all in ‘Cats’ apart from it ending? Not a fan, soz.

Hmm, interesting, can't imagine I'll go and watch it in the cinema. I mean the thing that stuck out for me the most is that the sizes of the cats don't seem quite right in Trafalgar Square compared to the rest of the stuff in the trailer, I'd better not watch it if that's what I've taken from the trailer. (Never been a Cats fan though, was just a little curious).
