Premiering on 22 February at the Theatre St. Gallen, based on the autobiography by model and anti-FGM activist Waris Dirie. The music is by Uwe Fahrenkrog-Peterse, co-writer of '99 Luftballons'. Certainly compelling subject matter. It would be interesting to see how this works as a musical. www.theatersg.ch/de/wuestenblume

Interesting and daring topic for a musical, but I'm not too crazy about the all-white male creators of this show. Can't say that I'm not intrigued.

The German lyrics are predictably banal and dire.
And I agree with Ali that there's something off-putting about a completely male western team writing about female genital mutilation in Africa, even if they had female African advisors.
I also really don't think this is a subject for a musical. I mean, yes, musicals can and should tackle serious subjects too, but it just feels odd and wrong here, it would be much better suited for a play.
That said, the original book was a bestseller and it was also filmed, so I guess they're trying to milk it further.
