Any other Steve listeners on here? I am unashamedly one of the many spikers!
I’m just catching up with this morning’s show, it’s lovely to hear him reminisce about his 40 years on LBC. I’m still gutted I didn’t manage to get a tea-towel last month.

No. Cannot stand him. Why does he consistently repeat almost everything he says TWICE? Validation? Drives me insane. Usually playing in the background on my bus journeys. I now resort to headphones!

Filling in time. 3 hours without taking calls is a lot of airtime to fill even with all those ad breaks. eight-four-eight-five-oh...

Loved listening to him in about 1980, still listen occasionally, a unique radio talent whether you like him or not, absolutely no one else has ever done a show like that in UK.

Broadening this out to LBC more generally (if that’s ok dontdreamit) I do love the station. I got into it when Jenny Eclair used to do her arts based Saturday morning show. She had a series of very entertaining sidekicks, some of who have gone on to bigger and better things and others who have disappeared without trace. Then I got into Nick Ferrari at Breakfast who I used to hate, but who I think has mellowed greatly over the last few years. He was massively right wing and still is I suppose, but is much more balanced and accepting. I genuinely think he has tried to open up to more liberal ways of thinking. My morning before work isn’t complete without Nick. Clive Dull... please retire. Nick Abbott - pointless. I can’t abide Eddie Mair, unfunny and full of himself, but love Iain Dale who I think is very good and offers balance in a crazy world. Shelagh Fogarty and her pearl clutching... no thanks and don’t get me started on JOB!

You see BurlyBeaR, I've loved Nick Abbott for the last 20 years! He never fails to make me laugh, though I can understand how he's not to everyone's taste. He's a lot tamer now than he used to be, his shows from the Talk Radio years (when I first heard him) were so anarchic to me at the time and he's been my radio hero ever since. I'm not a Steve fan, I used to listen but realised the more I did, the more bitter and bitchy I was becoming. That much vitriol first thing in the morning wasn't good for my soul. Though I do respect his abilities, being able to command that audience for that length of time, with almost no time off for holidays, and without taking any calls (except at Christmas) is seriously impressive.

I think LBC going more news based when Global took over has helped it gain popularity it would be good if they could diverse the schedule again with shows like Steve's which are driven by the news or politics.

Agree and you’d think there was room for an Arts show in the current affairs surely?

I just remembered when Richard Arnold had that very camp Saturday show. Lol. Dan Wooten in stood in for him.it was very fur coat and kitten heel. Amusing.

Agree and you’d think there was room for an Arts show in the current affairs surely? I don't think LBC needs an art shows per se but I would say Iain Lee's show on Talk Radio and his previous shows elsewhere including LBC proves there is an appetite for a non-political, news based shows.

I think there are several slots on LBC at the weekend that could accommodate arts stuff without detrimental effect on the news agenda. I love Majiid Nawaz but Ian Payne adds nothing, in my opinion. There’s room for a cinema/tv/theatre review show.

I also really like Ian Payne who is used like a super-swing as he covers everyone and anyone at the drop of a hat. Really neutral, and very open. It’s always a good day when he pops up on the airways unexpectedly.
I have a love/ hate of Nick Abbott, but as a result of his shows, Nigel Farage is only referred to as Uncle Nige in our house?
Has anyone listened to LBC News on DAB? It’s a 20 minute update of the news every 20 minutes. You can still pick it up on the old lLondon am frequencies so I sometimes listen to it in the car on the way home as it’s a good way to catch up with the day’s events. Funnily enough Ian Payne seems to pop up on there several times a week too!

There’s room for a cinema/tv/theatre review show. I quite like Maajid, and he does make me really think about things they are talking about, even if I still don’t agree with him by the end. Now if they can take Uncle Nige off the airways, that would be an improvement to the schedule!

I think we’re like to get more of Nige than less from now on!
Thnk he’s very good as long as the topic is brexit related, but take him out of that comfort zone and he falters.

I always enjoy Nick Abbott’s A to Z of the year which will be upon us soon!
Enjoying Tom Swarbrick lately.
Steve Allen I find entertaining when I can’t sleep but I reported him recently (to deaf ears) when his bitchiness tipped over into casual homophobia and transphobia. The irony of using ‘camp’ in a negative way when he comes across as not a million miles from camp himself...

Tom Swarbrick is hard work. That's all. Absolutely. I’ve been turning over on my way to work this week, and I did last week driving home when he was covering for Eddie Mair. Ian Payne is currently covering Steve Allen who has said he is taking a break. I quite like listening to Ian in the early hours- much better than Matt Stadlen who used to cover the slot at the weekends!
