Well, there wasn't much Crimble spirit in my local Waitrose carpark yesterday. So I thought we might like somewhere to vent, without fear of being branded a stripy hard-boiled sweet.
First on my list is Warburtons. I've had to (temporarily) change brands as I can't face being wished Merry Christmas on my bread wrapper in the middle of November. And don't you just hate the fact that all your favourite food in the supermarket has disappeared to make space for 46 varieties of Heston's Horrible Puddings?
Also. To the gitty-gitty git-git who spread their tank over 2 parking spaces on a busy Saturday morning - I learnt to drive in Barcelona and can winch myself into pretty much anywhere. I am also still nimble enough to crawl out of the passenger side. So, ner ner ne ner ner. Hope you had fun getting back into your car.
So let's hear your Christmas rants.

The fact that they spent almost a billion pounds doing up Birmingham New Street Station but still cant cope with Christmas so they employ people to stand at the stairs telling you to walk on the left and also have "step behind the yellow line" police on platforms.

I hate those Christmas adverts (prime culprit is John Lewis) which cynically manipulate your emotions to embrace the true spirit of Christmas whilst a) not actually showing any products that you can get in store and b) try to get you to embrace the true spirit of Christmas by spending a shed load of money in their shop to improve their profit margins and keep the shareholders happy.

You know the ones? All about everyone's dahling offsprings' achievements over the past year. I stopped reading them several years ago when one of these missives contained a blow by blow account of - and I quote - 'Bob's anal fissure.'

You know the ones? All about everyone's dahling offsprings' achievements over the past year. I stopped reading them several years ago when one of these missives contained a blow by blow account of - and I quote - 'Bob's anal fissure.' When the couple who always sent us a “we have done all these wonderful things” newsletter split up I was like “oh that’s sad but I TOLD you the whole of their life wasn’t as perfect as those pictures! At least now we won’t get the annoying newsletter”....I spoke too soon, we now get separate newsletters from them, as if vying for who has the most perfect year....!!!! Now off to find a Christmas card for Peggs!

People ranting about Christmas is my Christmas rant. 😡 After first buying a Christmas jumper wrapped Warburtons* loaf 🍞 in a very quiet Asda, I too was in Waitrose yesterday (get me!), but in the afternoon. In stark contrast to the city centre, which was packed, it was so devoid of customers I didn't even have to queue. Not that I saved any time, as the partner serving me wasn't 18. I think everyone must have been in John Lewis, or Coles as it's known around here, no doubt drawn there by overly-sentimental advertising. *You do know, Tibidabo, that Warburtons is a solidly northern brand? I suppose you think of it as doing your bit for charity!

And there was I, TallPaul, thinking you'd be cracked up by my story.

And there was I, TallPaul, thinking you'd be cracked up by my story. And to think @theatremonkey accused *me* of writing crack-er quality gags. 🙂 A case of mistaken identity, surely!

I had a delivery from Tesco two weeks ago and the Lurpak was relabelled as Christmas Butter
20 years ago when I was working for HobbyCraft, we started Christmas in July. So none of it bothers me after that - when you have the decorations up from July to January and sell festive craft items all year round, you get very used to it always being Christmas in some form!

I was in the Dorking Waitrose earlier this PM, having done a modest walk (first time since I've had a very tenacious virus so thought I had better keep the distance down as the hills provide sufficient challenge) and was looking forward to my "free" coffee before catching my train home - for which initially I had ample time.
Alas, the 2 hot drink machines are situated at opposite ends of the store; one was doing a prolonged cleaning cycle and the other had run out of milk and all the staff were busy doing other things. Frustrated customers were going back and forth, clutching part-filled cups but I did eventually track down someone who could help. However, when I had the temerity to say that I was now pushed for time to catch my train, another customer reproved me, saying "it's a free service, you know". I didn't bother explaining that I'm sure the cost is factored in elsewhere and that Waitrose wouldn't be offering it if it didn't more than pay for itself; wish I'd had the nerve to ask the lady if she had travelled there by car, as I strongly suspect, and therefore wasn't at the mercy of Sunday trains.

I am looking forward to all my extra cards now. Was just summoned to mind the small relatives so they're outside lights could be put up. There appeared to be about 3 times as many advent calendars as there were children.

another customer reproved me, saying "it's a free service, you know". Which is a cue for a rant about people who think that the "free" part means the "service" part doesn't matter. A service remains a service whether you pay for it or not.

i gave up doing the whole christmas thing a few years back. There is so much build up to what is just 1 day. I dont buy family gifts any more, i was fed up getting useless gifts. A mini, plastic water cooler that doesnt cool water anyone?? Sometimes I'm just home on my own and that doesnt bother me at all.
Yes, my family call me The Grinch. Even when I've taken 6 of us to the Palladium panto every year!
I do still treat my mum though. i take her away for a weeks holiday in January, usually to the Canaries. The first year we went over christmas week and it was double what it usually cost. i didnt make that mistake again.

I'm somebody who would like any mention of Christmas to be banned from shops for every day of the year apart from Christmas Eve, Christmas Day & Boxing Day. I've never really enjoyed Christmas, even as a child when I'd look forward to it then always end up disappointed. I therefore gave up looking forward to it years ago & now regard it with a species of dread. I particularly detest having to lie about being pleased to receive presents that are almost never what I want.

Yesterday, Spotify alerted me to Jamie Cullam's Christmas album, I played and liked and then in sainsburys I accidentally bought mince pies and brandy butter. I love mince pies and I could eat them all year round.
This morning I see several people on social media have put up Christmas decorations after some internal debate I've now done the same. I wouldn't normally do this till mid December but my argument is after a sh!t year I just want to see the end of it and the decorations are a reminder of NY and a fresh start.
So no bah humbug form me!

Oh good, I don't think there's been enough negativity this year, let's collate it all in one thread.
