Good going. Someone must have been to them ALL. TheatreMonkey? Goodness me I reckon, The Resident Monkey has been to the St Martins pre The Mousetrap.

Good going. Someone must have been to them ALL. TheatreMonkey? No, I have been to them all as well, I have also been some many times. Only been to the Lyric, Fortune and St Martin once for obvious reasons. Also been to every Broadway theatre and some of them many times.

I think I've visited all except 9, possibly 10 as I can't remember if I saw Curious Incident at the Apollo or the Gielgud, and if it was the latter then I have never been to the Apollo!
The ones I definitely haven't visited are: Ambassadors Arts Fortune Lyric Playhouse Prince Edward Prince Of Wales St Martins Trafalgar Studios
4 of those are because I have no interest in seeing the long running shows they currently have. In fact, I suspect the only one I am likely to remove from that list in the near future is the Prince Edward, as I do intend to catch Mary Poppins at some point.

The Old Vic is also classified as a West End theatre, isn't it (despite its Waterloo location)? It certainly used to be, before Spacey took it over. I remember seeing Life x 3 there with Mark Rylance and Imelda Staunton.
And, despite its location, the Arts is classed as Off West End (although for a time was West End proper, when it had things like Eden, Entertaining Mr Sloane and Jesus Hopped the 'A' Train).

Also been to every Broadway theatre and some of them many times. Very impressive! I think I've only been to a handful of Broadway theatres, but keen to add some more to the list!

A great thread that really got me thinking. Having had a root through the boxes of my collected programmes, it looks like the only theatres left on the list to visit are -
Arts Her Majesty’s Lyric Piccadilly Sondheim
I might make visiting them a New Years resolution so I can complete the list.

Just the Lyric left for me. Hoping to be enticed there with the new productions entering after the refurb!

I think all of them apart from Her Majesty's.
(I've seen Phantom, but not in London.)

They’re are a member of SOLT though.
it is easier to answer the length of a piece of string, than define a West End theatre!
Broadway theatre is much easier that being over 499 seats and a member of the Broadway League.

The Resident Monkey has been to the St Martins pre The Mousetrap. Cheek! And No. But yes, all West End theatres, multiple times, not always just for public performances either (you've no idea how kind the West End can be). What is your favourite TM?

Does the criteria require some contribution to the Society of London Theatre (and SWET before that)? I assume as the NT productions are considered for Olivier Awards they are considered West End, with smaller venues like the Other Palace, Boulevard, Soho, Turbine etc being classes as Off-West End. It was always much clearer with the paper West-End Theatre guides (which always included the NT and Old Vic).

Interesting thread. I've thought about it a few times today and I'm genuinely surprised to find that I've been to 23.
I'm only able to go to London for 3-4 days at the most so always have to prioritise limited runs. That's why I've never gotten around to The Mousetrap, Les Mis (bit underwhelmed by the film too), Phantom, or Hamilton.
I'm vaguely interested in seeing the likes of Matilda, The Lion King, or Mama Mia, to see what the fuss is about. I'm not sure I'd like them though so I keep giving them a miss. I've seen The Woman in Black, Wicked, and The Book of Mormon on Tour, so they're out too. Definite no to Thriller Live.
I wouldn't normally bother listing them but reading other posters' lists above helped jog my memory, so here's what I've come up with. YMMV.
Adelphi - No Aldwych - No Ambassadors - No Apollo - My Night With Reg, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof Apollo Victoria - No Arts - Bad Jews Cambridge - No Criterion - The Comedy About a Bank Robbery Dominion - An American in Paris Duchess - The Play That Goes Wrong Duke Of York's - Doctor Faustus, The Glass Menagerie, King Lear, Summer and Smoke Fortune - No Garrick - Twelve Angry Men, The Scotsboro Boys, the Branagh season, Young Frankenstein Gielgud - Strangers on a Train(?), The Ferryman, Company Gillian Lynne - No Harold Pinter - Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolff?, The Pinter season, Captain Corelli's Mandolin Her Majesty's - No London Palladium - Snow White panto, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Lyceum - No Lyric - No Noël Coward - Mrs Henderson Presents, Labour of Love, The Lieutenant of Innishmore, The Inheritance, All About Eve Novello - No Palace - Harry Potter Phoenix - Chicago Piccadilly - Death of a Salesman Playhouse - Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, 1984, Prince Edward - Aladdin Prince Of Wales - No Savoy - Gypsy, Dreamgirls Shaftesbury - The Pajama Game Sondheim (Queens) - No St Martins - No Theatre Royal, Drury Lane - 42nd Street Theatre Royal Haymarket - The Elephant Man, The Libertine Trafalgar Studios - Ghosts, Richard III, The Ruling Class, The Maids, The Spoils, Apologia, Killer Joe Vaudeville - Hand to God, Dead Funny, the Oscar Wilde season, True West, Groan Ups Victoria Palace - No Wyndham's - Blithe Spirit, A View From the Bridge, King Charles III, The Weir, No Man's Land, Long Day's Journey into Night, Don Juan in Soho, Red
I seem to be a big fan of musicals, film adaptations and nudity 😳
(Also The Other Palace, Royal Court, Hampstead Theatre, National Theatre, Coliseum, Donmar Warehouse, The Bridge, Young Vic, Old Vic, Lyric Hammersmith, Southwark Playhouse, Finborough Theatre, Almeida Theatre, the Globe, and the pop-ups on Charing Cross Road and at King's Cross.)

The Royal Court always feels like a notable omission too. One of my faves.

I didn’t mean to imply that it did (the Donmar was always included in the paper theatre guides also). Like your post that beat me to the punch I was suggesting that being considered “West End” was dependent on membership to SOLT/SWET. Apologies if that wasn’t clearer. In which case The Royal Court.... IS. Isn’t it?🤔! And for memory they used to publish listings for the Lyric Hammersmith, but separately. 🤦🏼♂️ OK. I give up...

The Donmar despite being located in Central London I'm unsure if it's part of SOLT or not.

So with only 2 years of going to the theatre under my belt, Albeit, quite an intensive couple of years. I've notched up 21 so far.
Think I can get another 8 in the next few months with what's planned, which leaves 9 which currently have shows which I really don't want to see.

Collaborators & The Curious..............in the Nighttime won the Olivier, whilst The Flick, This House and People, Place & Things recently played the Dorfman. City of Angels won the Oliver whilst One Night in Miami........., The Night Alive, My Night with Reg all got nominated at the Donmar. As I said it easier to judge a length of string than define a West End theatre.
