Prince Edward Theatre is prime West End real estate and is bang in the middle of Wendy, it houses some of the best shows. It is a favourite of some posters on here, including me, as it is quite intimate and has good sight lines.
What should it be renamed to?

Maybe they could re-name it the Prince Andrew and put a new Pizza Express next door .

The Hal/Harold Prince Theatre, if Cameron fancied saving some dosh on new signage, they could just call it the Prince Theatre.

Not certain it needs a name change but bringing back the 'cinerama' name would be quirky.
Can't quite believe that a single film (How the west was won) played continuously here for over 2 years. 2001, a Space Odyssey, a personal favourite, played for 10 months. Can't quite see Avengers lasting that long.

A lot of West End theatres like the Dominion and the Apollo Victoria were either built or converted into cinemas before becoming theatres again.

It was named in 1930 after the then Prince of Wales, later Edward VIII and even later the Duke of Windsor. Best time to rename it would have been either when he abdicated or when he turned out to be a massive Nazi.

Why are we considering renaming this theatre? Is it proposed?

No it’s just named after someone who seems to be dissolute, like his great grandfather who was also Prince Edward.

Edward? Don’t you mean Andrew if any? We haven’t got a Prince Andrew Theatre have we? Edward is the one who likes acting and is married to Sophie. Two kids I believe. Has he done something ‘ not quite ok’ Or am I misunderstanding?

In light of this week's news perhaps the Duke of York Theatre? Although after that what what next rename York and then New York...
I don't understand this thread. Seriously.

I think PoL is getting his princes mixed up, despite being a well known royalist 😆
PoL...it’s Andrew who is in the news, that’s ANDREW.
Unless you know something about Prince Edward that we don’t... feel free to share 🙂

They should call it "The Theatre ... of DEATH". Everything is cooler with "... of DEATH" added to it.

OK, so what about the Duke of York's Theatre then Although of course that was named after the future George V. On a similar note the Prince of Wales theatre was named after Edward VII. In fact the only theatre which is named after a current Royal is Her Majesty's Theatre, which has (since 1837) been named "Her Majesty's" or "His Majesty's" according to the gender of the current monarch.

When I was a newly-out gay boy in London the gossip was always some combination of Prince Edward, Michael Ball, Jason Donovan and Robbie Williams. Someone ALWAYS knew someone who knew someone who knew someone who KNEW it was true... And half of London apparently shagged Tom Cruise while he was making Eye Wide Shut...
