Yes. As I’ve said before it’s going to the Palladium in summer 24 I was just pointing out the website has changed. Which implies the announcement must be imminent.

Imelda would be an interesting Dolly. My favorite memory of Imelda is not one of her big roles, which I enjoyed, but her rendition of "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" in They Shoot Horses Don't They (RSC/Mermaid).
I've seen two Dollys: Carol Channing and Pearl Bailey, both wonderful. After the curtain call of the latter production, Pearlie Mae moved downstage to make a short speech, the gist of which was not entirely specific; something about a tragedy and the cast not knowing what to do. My friend and I went to get her autograph at the stage door. She told us that, during the performance, the (all-Black) cast learned of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Sharon D. Clarke would make a great Dolly!

Can I put in a request for Charley Stemp. I think he'd look good in the red Harmonia Gardens dress but still a bit too young.

Just give it Jane McDonald and let us all have a camp old time Someone literally just put Jane McDonald’s name on the MTAS Facebook group on a post for this, so now I don’t know if you are him and are being serious, or if he’s seen your post and backed it.

I’m assuming Imelda will still be in it because one reason it was delayed for quite so long was due to Imelda’s filming commitments for The Crown.

Can I put in a request for Charley Stemp. I saw him as Barnaby. Do not see him as Cornelius.

Again.. Imelda IS doing it. Palladium 2024 Hopefully there'll be an alternate with fixed weekly performances à la 'Sunset Boulevard' so people who - like myself - have no interest whatsoever in seeing her can easily avoid that.

I would not hold your breath on that one. Imelda famously is a trooper and does all 8 shows. She didn’t have an alternate for Gypsy or Sweeney, so she won’t for this.

Oh she'll be 8 times a week, and she'll be fine - she just doesn't strike me as a Dolly at all, but I totally get why it's her.

I also think the Palladium is the best venue for it, much better than the Adelphi.

Yeah, I'm not too hopeful... it's not a hard sing, nor is it an especially demanding show from a general stamina viewpoint, even at her age, so I'm sure she'll be super professional and won't miss a performance unless something really prevents her from it. BUT... unfortunately I'm really not a fan of her work, and unless I know in advance her understudy is meant to go on as Dolly I think I'll be saving some money and sit this one out.

I’m looking forward to this even though there’s literally an entire theatre full of women I’d rather see in the role, about 10 minutes away at The Gielgud.

What’s with the Anti-Imelda brigade?! She’s one of our finest performers. Didn’t y’all see her in Gypsy?
I can’t wait to see her take on Dolly.. it won’t be the usual camp schtick.

And we’re kind of back in the realms of ‘Sunset’. If people just want to see the film replicated or a previous production, maybe just watch that? Imelda will bring warmth and something undefinable to Dolly rather than yet another Channing/La Rue knock off.

Maybe Jamie Lloyd will direct this too and have Imelda in only a bra and panties to symbolize Dolly’s vulnerability and Harmonia Gardens will be filled with people bleeding from the eyes and fire all around them to envision the restaurant (and all of its patrons) is in Hell.

Same as Norma Desmond who people often write off as such.
