Yes, QR codes are handy but a back up must always be in place. This year's fringe was all QR code based (you had one QR code per booking so if you booked your day in one go you only had to worry about one code). This could be displayed on paper or phone, but since many fringe venues are subterranean, relying on phone signals did cause issues. Every venue could look up your booking based on your last name etc, but this took time. Saw an event in a 600-capacity venue which had about 8 minutes to get everyone in and finding someone's booking manually took about 30 seconds. Not a great deal of time but with only two people checking tickets you only had to have a few bookings that needed to be hunted down manually and you'd have audience members getting in after the start of the show.

Tour listings starting to appear, currently showing for the Leicester Curve, 31st October to 4th November 2023. Also being promoted on the Mayflower (Southampton)’s social media today, on sale soon but no dates as yet. Interestingly the image they’ve used shows Matt, Tosh, Adam and Tarinn so I wonder if they’re staying on for the tour?

I was at the final performance last night. The room was electric! Phenomenal performances with extra touches, plus a closing night speech which welcomed all the covers and crew on stage to sing the finale.

I wonder if Melody Thornton is playing Faye Treadwell on the tour; as she finishes in The Bodyguard in July and this tour starts in September.

You'd hope not - it requires someone who can act a bit.

Just bumping this thread as I’m wondering if anyone knows when casting might be announced for the tour?
It’s at the Mayflower in Southampton (the first stop of the tour I believe) and they’re promoting it heavily, but using photos of the West End cast with no confirmation of who’s appearing on the tour (I know it doesn’t matter to a lot of people, but I’d rather know before I book!)

I’m sure someone said Ashford Campbell was cast in Tosh’s track, as he was at the Birmingham launch. Beyond that, and the fact Matt Henry is resident director, there’s no other details I’ve seen.

Another bump in case anyone has casting news I’ve missed. Less than 6 weeks to go until the first show!

I’m not sure I’d go again given it was Beverley and Tosh who made it for me, but it would be great to find out who’s been cast so I can make a final decision!

Just received from The Mayflower:
We're excited to announce the cast for The Drifters Girl, which is opening it's UK tour at our theatre in one month!
Carly Mercedes Dyer, former star of SIX the Musical and who delighted audiences with her performances as Erma in Anything Goes, will play music industry change-maker, Faye Treadwell.
Carly will star alongside Ashford Campbell (who hit UK screens in ITV’s The X Factor as a member of The Risk and now continues his journey with The Drifters Girl having performed as part of the West End company), Miles Anthony Daley (Tina Turner: The Musical, Aldwych Theatre; Choir of Man, Arts Theatre), Tarik Frimpong (The Wiz, Hope Mill Theatre; Aladdin, Prince Edward Theatre) and Dalton Harris (who won The X Factor in 2018).

Video here of Carly singing Harlem Child - worth a watch for the archive photos of Faye Treadwell.

Good for Carly leading a UK tour - great career progression.
Shame she won't get to play Persephone in Hadestown as a result.

Saw it in Manchester tonight...I'm guessing the female lead was an understudy...She was terrible...Many audience members could not hide their "amusement" with her poor vocals. I've seen thousands shows and this performance was not good. Spoiled an otherwise good show, nice slick staging, good vocals from the guys.

Incredible vocals.

Yesterday evening was Loren Anderson’s debut, probably unplanned and little rehearsed this early in the tour. It’s a shame if she wasn’t able to perform at her best, but I’m sure a few performances in and she’ll be splendid.

Incredible vocals. Great to hear she was more settled in the role. Just nerves last night maybe? Do you know if any other covers were on? Looks like a new one has been added (Daniel Haswell who I saw in Aint Too Proud) Unfortunately it looks the Dartford date is off for now due to RAAC

I went to the matinee yesterday. The understudy was on, unfortunately she didn’t have a singing voice I enjoyed. Didn’t see any cast information but it was my first visit to the Opera House so didn’t really know where to find it. The Drifter’s were all very good and were very funny in their other roles! I will have to try and see it when the lead is on.

Went to see it yesterday at the Manchester Opera House, and really enjoyed! Loren Anderson was on for Faye, great acting, but I don't think her voice is powerful enough for the role. The guys were all absolutely fantastic, and could not fault their storytelling ability considering the number of roles they play. Tarik was the star for me, and was great seeing him perform, as haven't seen him since he was in the Wiz at the Hope Mill. If it's playing near you I would 100% recommend it, it is a great show!

I saw this in Canterbury last week and thought it was good. Similar staging to the West End (only the light up floor and automated trucks are gone). Loren Anderson was on all week as Faye (and I believe this week the 2nd understudy has been on too - I hope Carly Mercedes Dyer is alright). Her acting was fine but her voice didn't carry the songs - doesn't help that I've been spoilt hearing Beverley Knight perform them.
