Daniel Mays > Daniel Boys
Always see the thread on Mr Boys and think it is a thread about Mr Mays. No news about Daniel Mays, but I do tend to see anything he turns up in

I agree he's a great actor, I've also seen him onstage in The Same Deep Water As Me and The Red Lion, not quite sure why he's doing the Dads Army film (beyond the money they're paying him) as I have the feeling it's going to be pretty terrible, but when you have a cast including the likes of Toby Jones, Bill Nighy, Michael Gambon and Tom Courtenay, there must be something beyond the money that made them all agree to do it - they can't ALL be doing it for the cash, right?

Maybe they're all big fans? My Dad is beyond excited for the film coming out, every time he calls he double checks the release date.

Seen him in three things now (The Same Deep Water As Me, Mojo and The Red Lion) and he's always been the best thing in each play by some way - so really looking forward to seeing him in The Caretaker.

I just like to imagine the casting office when they were putting Dad's Army together.
Casting bod 1: "Okay, so we've got most of them, we just need to cast Private Walker... we need someone who can play 'spivvy' really well..." Casting bods 2 & 3 exchange looks then exclaim in unison: "GET DANIEL MAYS."

Dad's Army (which I saw last night) was not a surprise hit for me. I love the original so much that I don't know what I was really expecting from it, but I just couldn't dissociate myself that the actors on screen were not the actors I wanted to see being the roles (Vicar excluded).
Mr Mays wasn't bad, he did fine with the material, just it wasn't good material.

He was pretty hot in dads army so I'm looking forward to The Caretaker. Has there ever been an all nude production?

If you haven't already watched it, download the first episode of the new series of the usually brilliant BBC TV thriller 'Line of Duty', because while Daniel Mays is in it there are also so other things about the production to admire.

I thought he was fantastic in Line of Duty. Playing a character there are so many reasons not to like, but with an intriguing layer of vulnerability that means you can't help but be drawn in. Excited to see what happens next episode.
I've liked Mays since I first saw him in Ashes to Ashes years ago. Seen him on stage a couple of times since, sadly in plays that overall I wasn't that impressed with, but I always felt I got my money's worth from his performance at least!

If you're a Mays fan, worth checking out Funland, which is the TV series in which I first noticed him. Went out on BBC3 but there's a DVD. You get to see a LOT of Daniel (are you listening, DDDH?)
Loved The Red Lion, looking forward to seeing Line of Duty - I think he's a very subtle actor.

I saw him at the Old Vic in The Caretaker, excellent actor. Also in The Winterling at Royal Court and the footy drama The Red Lion at the National.

I've seen Daniel Mays in quite a few plays and he's stood out each time. Having seen him in Line of Duty, and in the Caretaker at the Old Vic, I have no clue why this man hasn't won every award going.
