Theatre Tours

No, decided to save the NT tour for next time.

I did visit the V&A Museum this morning though, wanted to see the Theatre and Performance section, and also the "Censored! Stage, Screen, Society at 50" display, which I found very interesting.

And people call Patti LuPone a diva...

I recently got an advert came up on Facebook for a walking theatre tour and you wear headphones and you all sing showtunes outside the relevant theatres.
Looked as camp as t**s. We should have a theatre forum excursion and do it. But only the musical members the play members are far too clever and serious. 😁

I was working the bar this morning and noticed the tour group in. Glad you enjoyed it!!

I did the regular Royal Albert Hall Tour. I don't know what the differences are cause I've only done that one.

I highly recommend it. It's about an hour long. They tell you about the history of the building, lots of fun facts, you get to seat in a box (the view is breath-taking and you might see someone rehearse!), they show you the royal box (can't go past the door but you can have a look) and the rooms where the Royal Family stay before the show and during the interval (I know it has a name but can't remember).

Then up to the gallery, again, a breath-taking view. You get to know about the ceiling and those things that hang from it.

And I'm sure I'm forgetting something. Do it!

ETA: just had a look at the website and the RAH Tour and the Grand Tour seem to have the same description. I'm confused now... And I'm afraid I already deleted the e-mail with my ticket. Maybe someone else can help.

Oh and apparently the earlier the better. I had booked at 11am but for some reason I got there an hour early by mistake, and the nice girl at box office changed my ticket and put me in the 10am group, and told me 11am was always more crowded. We were 8-9 people in my group, which is always better than a big group.

I did the After Lights Down tour at the National last night and thought it was excellent. So much better than their normal backstage tour.

It was designed to go through the whole of the creation and playing of the show, well except the writing, and was focused on Follies.

We started by going down the yellow brick road, into the design studio with the design models, onto the usual visit to the set workshop and into the props workshop.

Then came the really good stuff, visit to the rehearsal room with revolve and into the Olivier stage area. Got to see the changing areas with all the costumes, the ladies liked the shoe section, where the band play and finally we had around 10-15 minutes on the Olivier stage.

We really were allowed to get up close to the set and costumes and have a good old nose around the set. Who knew there were some lovely plastic chairs inside one of the big moving walls.

I do recommend this to everyone, even if you haven't seen Follies, don't think its on for long but probably the best theatre tour that I have done.

I loved this, but it's quite a few years ago since I went (2011 I think, Wizard of Oz was on). General walk around front of house, through the seating area, Royal Box view. On to the stage (where a little improvised tap dance may have happened so I can say I've danced on the stage of the London Palladium), down into the bowels to see the drop from the stage trap door and the storage of some of the props. I believe there was a quick look at dressing rooms. Can't remember much more, but there were, I think, 2 or 3 Tiller Girls* in attendance to chat to people.

Great to see that the Palladium tours are being restarted. Had a quick look at the dates the tours are being done and frustratingly non tie in with my London theatre trips I’ve already arranged. This is the one tour I’m really keen to do so I’m hoping more dates will be announced before the Panto starts or they will do more tours next year if they are successful.
