Did you watch the C4 series before or after reading the books?

I thought the casting was good for the most part. Inspired in many cases. I think they totally failed with Brian Hawkins, Edgar Halcyon, and… shock horror Mrs Madrigal. She was great but not believable for me,
My obsession with the books back in the 80’s resulted in me taking a holiday to San Francisco in the 90’s that I couldn’t really afford so put on a credit card. I was paying it off for ages but it was the best holiday I’ve ever had. Went to the places, saw the things and it totally lived up to his descriptions. It was fantastic, not to mention the other *ahem* diversions.

Laura and Marcus were the heart of the show and they were pitch perfect.
Murray Bartlett came close to being a worthy replacement in the most recent version
