Liked him in Les Mis and Phantom tours a while back... His CD Rise has been brought to my attention by Mr Amazon. Can anyone throw any light on it? Is it good? (I like proper orchestral backing with my singers; I'm not over-fond of a piano and/or cello type accompaniment, if you get my drift.) And what of his previous CDs? Any help appreciated.

You can listen to the samples on Amazon.
Just had a nose. Doesn't sound like the Royal Philharmonic, but it doesn't sound like a bontempi organ and a drum kit either.
Some nice songs on it.

His first album is my favourite. Great selection of songs on it.

I prefer his first (self-titled I think?) and Unmasked to Rise but they're all good.
He's a great performer if you ever get to see him in concert too, and a lovely guy from the brief encounters I've had with him (ooh er not like that!)
Also entertaining his the John Vs Killian series on youtube that they made while in Phantom.

Also entertaining his the John Vs Killian series on youtube that they made while in Phantom. They were always a highlight of the week when they were in POTO. I particularly liked their take on Twister and also Russian Roulette with the tins of drink. Oh and yes all his CDs are fabulous and he's always been very nice to fans especially after his concerts

Indeed! the drinking one is my favourite...oh and the time they took Killian's Dad out drinking as well...
And yes, I love all his CDs, and he's a lovely bloke. Also has a particular sense of humour that I appreciate!

I miss those John vs Killian videos - they were absolutely brilliant! It's a shame no one else has done anything like it, but I supposed it probably wouldn't work as well without their personalities

I do love Killian's tweets even now about the things his dad and mum say......priceless at times

I’ve just spent a wonderful evening at the Crazy Coqs at Brassiere Zedel, where John Owen-Jones was launching his latest album, SPOTLIGHT. It was my first visit to the venue, and it is lovely and intimate.
Owen-Jones was absolutely stunning. A voice of near operatic proportions. He sang a mix of new material and old classics and just hit it out of the park every single time. I had tingles and shivers for most of the concert. “Evermore”, “What Kind of Fool Am I” and “‘TIL I Hear You Sing” we’re particular highlights. Lloyd Webber needs to remount LOVE NEVER DIES with him in the main role. I could have listened to him for much longer. He was also extremely funny when talking between songs.
It is on again tomorrow, but is sold out. I hope some of you get to see him.

Extremely jealous of you. I think John Owen-Jones has a fantastic voice. I have just bought his latest album Spotlight and every song is a gem. My favourite is Love Never Dies. I am hoping he can do a concert in the North East in the future

I agree that JOJ would be excellent in Love Never Dies. I saw him in Phantom and also loved the Love Never Dies dvd, surely it deserves another chance in the West End?!

No worries! 😀 he's so good isn't he. Such an amazing voice. His 'Bring Him Home' and 'Music Of The Night' were pretty much masterclasses. Loads of other big belters as well. A class act 😀

Have seen him twice in the last 2 years (Colwyn Bay and Rhyl)on mini-tours of Welsh venues each time with a 7/8 piece band. His MD, John Quirk is a great foil for him as well and does some classy arrangements. Excellent concerts with a varied repertoire and wonderful audience interaction. A real top class entertainer. He's good follow on Twitter as well.

Was any member at today's "Comparing Notes with Edward Seckerson" at the Pizza Express in Holborn? I thought it was mind-bogglingly wonderful. Extremely interesting conversation with Mr. Seckerson and singing of extraordinary quality and variety. JOJ can express anything with his voice, hands and facial expressions. Totally in a league of his own.
His MotN, TIHYS (in a higher key than usual) and BHH brought tears to my eyes. He can not just sing but live each aria even in a concert. What an amazing artist.
I think he is hugely underappreciated in the UK. It makes me laugh (if that's the right word) to think that he was overlooked as the Les Miz 25th concert's JVJ and again in the upcoming semi-staged version. Meanwhile, he's found new fame in Japan where he is genuinely and rightly respected and admired among musical fans. But that means he will be spending more time in Japan and possibly other Asian countries and less in the UK.
Anyway, for me, he is up there with the musical-theatre legends like Philip Quast and Colm Wilkinson.
I hope my post didn't offend anyone.

His singing was even better in Cardiff. I too seriously hope LND will be revived with JOJ as the Phantom. I think he is the most talented and dedicated musical-theatre actor currently working. I have so much respect for his professionalism.

I'd actually like to see JOJ in something rather light. He can be very funny and you don't see that in the endless carousel of Les Mis and Phantom. He'd have been a great Barnum I think or Oscar if they revived 'On the 20th Century' or the like.

I have always wanted to see JOJ as Zaza/Albin in La Cage aux Folles along with Earl Carpenter playing George.
I used to almost commute daily to the Playhouse Theatre when Roger Allam and Philip Quast were playing the leads. They were beyond brilliant.
Every time JOJ throws a concert, I go with a hope of hearing him sing "I am What I am". But, to this day, my dream has not been fulfilled.

I have just watched the live stream of John’s concert at Cadogan Hall and it was absolutely brilliant. Favourite songs were Anthem and Bring Him Home, both of which I never get tired of hearing. He comes across as being down to earth and very funny. It was lovely to see a live show again and it would be great if live streaming happened more often 😊

Was there at Cadogan Hall and loved it. And unlike what happened with Sunset at Ally Pally last week, no sound issues.
JOJ is hilarious. He wouldn't be bad at stand up...

I also watched and really enjoyed the streaming of the concert today. John seems a very charismatic guy and can definitely hold the stage for a few hours. Very good band and song selection. I particularly enjoyed This is the Moment and Goodbye. 5⭐️ from me, lovely way to spend a Saturday evening.
