Haven't got time to read all this thread and have no interest in musicals either... Will just say that Smith is on my 'Accepted stray list' that I have with my wife so if she's reading this... ;-) Well don't let us keep you... (You're not george all grown up now, are you?) Anyway, good luck and all that, with the straying. (Not sure how to break this to you really, but... um.. poor Liz died back in 2013...) Erm, none of that made any sense to me.
Sheridan Smith is still alive and just like Hugh Jackman, David Beckham and, bizarrely, David Duchovny appears on my wife's 'agreed stray list', Miss Smith, if you're reading this, let's talk about going to a Garfunkels together ... ;-)

Never let it be said this board doesn't run the spectrum of discussion....from a detailed debate on the politics of race and song to...well that.

All jokes - and my fantasies aside - she's a far better actress than some snobs give credit for and one of the best of her generation...

Not to bring up the discussion of race again to annoy anyone, just for discussions sake, but And I Am Telling You isn't about race at all in the context of the show, it has no mention of race at all. In the same way Listen doesn't in the same show. These are two big power ballads. Yes originated by black women, but why should it matter who sings them when it doesn't speak about race? Should Whitney not of sung I Will Always Love You because a white woman sang it originally?

When I Know Where I've Been was mentioned earlier I thought yes that's different because it's about the struggle against racism but And I Am Telling You is literally a woman screaming about unrequited love. My comment a few pages back if anyone was wondering was not saying I don't think Sheridan should sing it because she's not allowed I was just worried it wouldn't really fit her voice/the voice of a white woman but after all this I really hope she slays it and proves me wrong!

If this song wasn't synonymous with black women, the song itself with its lyrics, no one would bat an eyelid, its ridiculous. Sheridan will jazz it up, its not gonna be like it is in the show. And I can imagine Sheridan's voice suiting a jazz style. I wish some people would give this woman a break, it seems the popular thing these days to drag her down when she is in a good place after a harsh couple of years.

For an "admin", I expected you to not drag an ex board member's name through the mud and set an example for our younger members on here, but I guess not. And anyone with a brain can see that there is alot of critique for Sheridan, especially on here. I nor ally wouldn't give such a care, but considering her circumstances over the past year, you'd think some would have some respect. Evidently not.

She’s just not a good enough singer to justify this. Great actress, average singer. I mean, release an album if it make you happy. I’m sure they’ll make it sound passable but on stage as yourself without being able to hide behind a character? Nah.

I'm sure she will put on an entertaining evening and that's good enough for me, especially as she's playing the glorious Sage in Gateshead. Anyone got any idea of prices?

They seem to be keeping quiet on ticket prices as it is all tied in with preordering the album to get a code for early access to tickets.

Hmm... they're following the hideous trend that's emerged in seating gigs where those at the front aren't the biggest fan but those with the most money.
First five rows are "VIP". Seat price face value of just short of sixty quid. Chuck in the standard laminate and pre signed photo so how much do we reckon they will charge... £100? £150?
Funny Girl front row day seats are looking more and more of a bargain by the day.

I didn’t realise this was the Sheridan appreciation thread. Anyway I AM a fan. I’ve liked her in several acting roles and I appreciated her performance in FG. I saw her in it 3 times! That doesn’t mean I have to think she poos diamonds though does it.

Graham Norton just played a "world exclusive" of Sheridan covering the Bette Midler/ Karen Carpenter classic Superstar. Oh dear. Totally bland and soulless with awful production, and she mangles the lyrics destroying the rhyme scheme. Maybe she should stick to Cilla.

There’s a joke here somewhere about polishing a turd but I can’t for the life of me fathom how to squeeze it in. Or out.)
