Good god I hope the costumes are better than what’s shown in these photos. Shocking. The lack of styling here is .. something.

Much as I hate to admit it, this is the first thing I've seen/heard/read about this show that actually makes it sound intelligent and interesting. Maybe some thought really has gone into creating a strong, original narrative. I think this is new as well? andrewlloydwebberscinderella.com/about/The StoryWelcome to Belleville! The most aggressively picturesque town in the history of the world, populated exclusively with gorgeous townsfolk who stop at nothing to achieve perfection. Belleville is fairy tale come to life: a place where you can’t move without falling over a wishing well or a quivering milkmaid. Maintaining this façade is a full time job, and one that is taken very seriously indeed.
The only person steadfastly refusing to live in the fairy tale is Cinderella, loud-mouthed, dripping with disdain, and more likely to roast Hansel and Gretel for dinner than play the demure and downtrodden maid, Cinderella is desperate to escape. But underneath it all, the loneliness that comes with being the town pariah is wearing on her.
It doesn’t help that her only friend, Prince Sebastian, has suddenly become the heir to the throne after the mysterious disappearance of his elder brother: sex god and charisma machine, Prince Charming. Suddenly thrust into the spotlight, the formerly shy and somewhat-less-sex-goddish Sebastian seems to be quickly growing into his brother’s enormous britches, and out of his friendship with Cinderella. But this change of circumstances also introduces something else to the relationship, a new spark which neither of them quite know what to do with. Could it be that these two old friends mean more to one another than they are willing to let on?
After a devastating PR disaster for Belleville, and with the threat of the guillotine glinting on the horizon, the Queen decides that the only thing to save the town (and her pretty neck) is a Royal Wedding: something colourful and distracting so the peasants don’t get too revolution-y.
All looks lost for the blossoming romance, until Cinderella meets The Godmother, who can fix any problem with a little incision and a couple of broken ribs. Maybe the answer lies where Cinderella has been refusing to look: in becoming the identikit beauty that everyone has always told her to be.

The whole page and lack of full bios/images feels like a half-done GCSE project.

Those pics are a right hotch-potch. Some of them seem to be themed round the character, while others aren’t. Carrie’s is ridiculous. Who signed that off? I don't know what you're looking at BurlyBeaR, they're clearly all themed. Cinderella has anger issues relating to housework; the Queen's a lush; Sebastian models unconvential knitwear (what is that? A short sleeved polo neck?); the Godmother has just finished her level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing; the Stepsisters are practising for careers as Instagram influencers; and the Stepmother likes pointing at things. S'obvious. They must have been waiting for those very rare and hard to come by hand mirrors to arrive when these two were taken. They’re all clearly in their own clothes. Cheap!

The summary of the plot is colloquial, the peasants become 'revolution-y'. I'm not looking down my nose more that it seems more in tune with a panto and missing depth. The summary seems to be full of holes but look it could be great.
At the moment to me it sounds like they've taken a trashy soap plot and are shoehorning in a few songs.
Also it's opening soon could they not have waited till the costumes were ready to do the promotional shots or maybe just do the headshots because those character shots are basic and reduce the characters to one dimensional.
Seems odd, maybe it's the pandemic screwing things up.

The whole page and lack of full bios/images feels like a half-done GCSE project. I think it's weird that they didn't have it all ready to go. I'd have thought they'd have had the 'easy' bits like pictures (if they'd used normal headshots) and bios, because they're going to have to put the programme together soon.

Cinderella looks like she didn't make the Quiddich team and is taking it out on her broom! Well, that or she wants to be Elphaba!

On my small screen, some of character names don't fully fit on the same line, so I've got: [...] The Stepmoth er The Godmoth er I am intrigued by The Stepmoth and even more so by The Godmoth. All hail our lepidopteran deity.

Apart from a couple of the main cast the only name I recognise is William Bozier. He was leading the world tour of Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake not so long ago, so I’m a bit surprised to see he’s part of the ensemble in this.

If only the show sounded good, it didn't star CHF and I didn't hate the songs that Magic at the Musicals insist on playing often. Afraid the cast alone is not enough to make me book this, brilliant though those four are.

Emerald Fennell also did some pretty good stuff with Promising Young Woman – after seeing that film I was convinced (but wasn't sold on the strength of ALW alone!)

So the plot in a nutshell After rebelling against perfection loudmouth Cinders realises Seb is moving up in the world. At the risk of losing her childhood friend she goes to The Godmoth (she shall forever be known as this now) who offers her a makeover (and surgery at the Nip and tuck possibly on the map) to fit in. Cue ending where she decides it’s better to remain true to yourself rejects makeover (could this be the hideous dress and wig from the hideous ‘let them eat cake promo?) and continue being a loudmouth. Seb loves her just as she is. A revolution started by the happy couple allows Seb to decree that perfection is out and happiness is in! Everyone discards the trappings of perfection gleefully while mirroring society’s obsession with perfection with hilarious snark. 🤔

Truly bizarre that they dressed Cinderella in black and made her pose with a broom like that. Surely the Wicked Witch/Defying Gravity vibes must have been obvious to them?

Oh I've been a huge fan of Emerald Fennell since she was in Call the Midwife, but she isn't enough to make me want to see it. The songs I've heard have really put me off it.

Well Andrew likes to rip off other shows so why change now!?!?!? You are right. Absolutely bizarre. How could you not twig that? I thought the Waitress PR / marketing was bad. This takes it all to a whole different level.

I think it's going to be a trainwreck, the story sounds crazy and like this is Cinderella in name only, and yet I am so desperate not just to get inside a theatre again but to see something new that I booked a ticket for the second row of the stalls for opening night and am actually excited. Even a trainwreck of a show can still be a bloody good time.

I mean if CHF keeps the role of Cinderella going forward she’s pretty much sorted for life with musicals, given her close relationship with Cameron Mackintosh, and now ALW 😆 Ask Lottie Mayor. She might not agree. There are plenty of people who have starred in ALW shows only for them to not even be working in theatre ten years later.
