I don't want to see Ophelia wearing doc martens. "This is our beloved bard, you cannot paraphrase. I mean, Ophelia’s mad scene, ‘There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance’ – it’s no good just bunging a few herbs about and saying, ‘Don’t mind me, I’m a loony’. Yes?"

You could also just throw in a bit of the Ayckbourn

It’s lovely that Vics’ words still touch us every day. I’ve been throwing out stolen one liners since my teens and still do. I hope she knew how totally beloved she was by so many, even if she didn’t seek recognition.

See the bottom of page 385. He inexplicably decided to officially name his character "Danté Cadbury" and promises (threatens?) to write a tell-all book about his time in the show. Strangely though, he is actually credited as "Ensemble" in my programme. I can only assume "Ensemble" is a French one-name thing he chose, prior to settling on Danté, similar to "Dalida"? Weirdly he also has other several characters who share the same name. There are also a few characters named "Swing", which is possibly Austrian sounding? OK. Thanks. On the app. I can’t find pages like that but I understand now. I was just a bit worried it was a racist thing, but thanks for explaining. It did cross my mind that it could be seen as a racist overtone by some. Dante Cadbury could be the Chocolate Devil also. But Dave is certainly my favourite nickname for Rodney. I would be so tempted to reply to one of his tweets and start it Dave, just to see what reaction if any it got. I was surprised to learn Dave was in his early 30's I'd assumed he was fairly fresh out of training so perhaps he does see his career window closing as there is less demand for older chorus dancers although he does look young for his age. Do older chorus dancers usually move onto Dance Captain, assistant/resident choreographer roles more?

Perhaps there’s an opening somewhere for someone who’s great at pointing their toes whilst being semi naked.

Disclaimer - All in the name of a bit of fun and to keep this thread going of course

In my experience, boarding school boys seem to go one of two ways — either a bit shy, or absolutely convinced they're god's gift to whatever they're doing!

No, it's definitely weird for the queen to be singing those lyrics about her own son. I'm happy to stick with that opinion, thanks. It's not weird for the reasons I mentioned in my post. You haven't addressed my argument or even made one of your own. I think it's pretty clear why it's weird? Regardless of your opinions of the lyrics themselves, the fact that the QUEEN is singing sexually explicit lyrics about HER OWN SON is the problem here. Not sure what more of an argument needs to be made about that? 'Let's say the boy was well-equipped' and '[he] could have had any girl he wanted' sung so suggestively it's like she's also including herself in that category are not appropriate things for that character to be singing. Truly if you cannot see that, I don't know what else I can possibly say here.

Truly if you cannot see that, I don't know what else I can possibly say here. It is ‘icky’ beyond belief. If it was the other way round; a father singing that about his daughter there would have been a Daily Mail front page spread denouncing all involved as morally corrupt (instead of the usual morally corrupt that they actively promote).

I'm being lazy, sorry, and not read the last few pages of this thread but are you referring to the late and very great Victoria Wood?

Can there be a category at the next WOS awards for Best Show Drama? Nominees could be:
Gemma Collins for her achy foot Rodney Vubya for his small ego Isaac Hesketh for their inclusive tweets Cock for its cheap tickets Andy Webz for his well-written letter

I quoted an excerpt from her brilliant "Piecrust Players" sketch Thats funny reading this as about 2 hours ago I was eating some prawns and quoting the wonderful sketch with Vic and Julie in the queue of a department store when Julie tells Vic not to eat the prawns as they tread water by sewage pipes. There is a suitable Vic Wood line for almost all everyday occurances.

Hairspray sprang to mind Isaac - Tracie, Gemma -Edna and Rodney - Seaweed. Or Rodney joins similar ALW fan Danny Bayne as an off stage swing in Fools and Horses and Rodney understudies his namesake Dave. Del Boy and Rodney were clearly supposed to have different Dads and we are in the inclusive casting era. But with Gemma, Rodney and Isaac don't forget Gemma is over 40 and Rodney over 30 so Isaac would class them as old.

“What’s the soup?” “Country Vegetable” “What country? Taiwan?” And the even better line in Dinnerladies "I'm stirring towards the heart, the country way. Well which silly country person told you that?"

Now don't be silly. Rodney would clearly be Amber.

We need a "Favourite Victoria Wood line" thread. So missed and sadly missed out on getting her Damehood. Her great co-star Julie Walters get her Damehood a year or two after Victoria passed and I never thought they would have done Julie before Victoria or at least done them at the same time. Also what else she may have created as she was only 62 when she died and there must have been health issues leading up to her passing. Victoria was always quality over quantity her TV output wasn't prolific but it was always must watch. Her specials like say Stanley Baxter's were events.

Truly if you cannot see that, I don't know what else I can possibly say here. I see what you mean. I guess it depends on how much license we are willing to allow. I accept the song as a caricature delivered in broad strokes and her song as an expression of pride in the man he was rather than a maternal love. It may be inappropriate but I don't mind that in this case.
