Sums up this show's calamitous run really, doesn't it. Fortunately it's shortly off to the glue factory...
Amazed they were allowed in wearing that really, doubt they'd be allowed in wearing a motorcycle helmet.
I blame Rodney, just 'cos.

Speaking of protests... I really don't want this to sound bad, but last night at about 10 minutes into the show my stomach jumped as I thought I was about to witness some kind of protest...a person wearing a full horse head came in late and started walking right down to the stage and I was convinced that they were going to jump on and do something, as it was right in the middle of Carrie's Bad Cinderella number. It turns out that the person was just someone who personally choses to dress as a horse, and so happened to be late and have a seat in the front row. I really don't want that to come across as me being judgemental because I'm not - if someone wants to dress a certain way then they're free to do so and I applaud the GL for being so inclusive - but I panicked for a moment! I love that in your previous (apparently comprehensive) post about your eventful night, this happening didn't even make the cut! Bonkers.

I was on such a high after meeting Victoria and her speaking to me like I was an old friend last night that I totally forgot about it until now - it really was a mental night! Maybe I’m bringing the chaos?

I thought Lauren Byrne (who I saw) was excellent, with Michael Hamway, and still do.
Stumbled across a Youtube pirate video yesterday, with Carrie and Ivano. Despite criticism of her acting here, Carrie absolutely finds the edge and seems perfect in the role, and Ivano is so real and animated and offbeat. Both feel really good acting performances. Camera up close may be helping that comparison (I was in the circle - great view, but further obviously).
Upshot - seeing that detail made me feel that the size and width of the Gillian Lynne Theatre didn't help this show, and some of the broadness it encouraged. In a dark fairytale a deep stage is good, the sense of things emerging, not 'coming on from the wings' which constantly reminds 'it's only theatre'. The complicated (but not very meaningful) bit of wall decor at the back really was a mistake I think.
As so often with ALW shows I've got a feeling it would be better smaller. Wonder if it'll get the chance.

Rodney is just coming over as a petulant, entitled brat. I am sure casting directors are taking note.
He is paid to perform the role and to entertain the audience who have paid considerable sums to see the show. That means singing the notes as written. Doing the dance steps as choreographed. Saying the lines in the script.
He isn't a star name who has to be indulged. He is a chorus boy getting a few moments in the spotlight because he is an understudy.
Doesn't mean he has to bow and scrape in gratitude. But it does mean he had to be professional and respect the audience.

I overheard Caleb tell another audience member that he’ll be on for the final show last night, I’m glad as I paid about 3x what I usually would to be at the final show and will be glad to not have to witness Rodney’s main character syndrome again.

Is Rebecca Trehearn back for the final show today? She tweeted about testing positive for covid 3 days ago but I’m not sure what the rules are these days.

I just got to the theatre and the first thing I was met with when I got to the top of the stairs was Joel Montague, posing for pictures with Carrie fans.
This is going to be another…interesting visit isn’t it?

They are going live on Instagram for the curtain call so worth watching to see if ALW has anything to say

It's full original cast, those boards are wrong
Ivano got an incredibly long standing ovation after his solo (well deserved) Probably would've continued on for ages had it not been cut off by the orchestra

Well the livestream just abruptly ended as Lawrence Connor came on stage. But the reaction from the audience was huge and looked like it meant a lot to the cast.

Lawrence read out a letter from ALW that received boos from the audience.

No ALW Just a letter where he says Cinderella was an 'expensive mistake' That is so incredibly rude. To the cast. To the crew. To the audience. Say it later in an interview, if you must, but to close a show?! Not the right place. For a composer he really is tone deaf.
