Are there no shows the week of the 12th? Don’t seem to be tickets on sale… i think it's from where they are still sorting out the socially distanced seating? Hope they intend putting more back on sale as I'm hoping to grab a ticket to replace my cancelled Joseph one. Yeah, it's just this. The days up to 19th appear one by one at the same time that they contact the current ticket holders with their new seats/exchange details.

Mark Shenton just tweeted that critics invited 19th and 20th, with 20th July being official first night.
Advance notice that today's Covid announcement will mean fully capacity - maybe?? Box Office and Marketing deserve a medal for all the changes they've had to manage.

It's great to read all the details from people who have seen this. Apologies if this has already been mentioned and I've missed it, but: {Spoiler - click to view} Are Prince Charming's immediate family portrayed as being 'in the know' about his faked death all along? And if the situation for him was so bad that he had to fake his own death, what has changed since then to make him confident enough to come back and come out? Is his return just one of those 'surprise!' moments that you aren't meant to think about too much? Having only seen the first preview, like other bits in the show, the finer details don't seem to matter. I don't recall that being addressed, but by then i had sort of given up trying to figure it out. Maybe someone who has seen it more recently has a different view.

Mark Shenton just tweeted that critics invited 19th and 20th, with 20th July being official first night. That makes much more sense. By then Joseph has started and the director can focus more on it.

He comes back to save his brother from an unwanted marriage.

Press night has indeed been moved back six days as mentioned above having previously been pushed forward six days, so this is now their THIRD set of opening nights ... will it be the last? Who's to say. No one thought that moving it forward was remotely realistic and/or sensible.

I don’t think there was ever any official word that that was happening.

So either someone knew where he was and could be contacted, or news of the wedding reached where he was?
If it was addressed I apologise - honestly I was distracted by PC. For someone who all the men looked up to as their idol, he wasn't nearly as ripped as the other men on the stage. Yes i'm shallow to notice and consider such things, but when the show hits you over the head with how perfect everyone else in Belleville etc, it's hard not to notice. Oh, and that long blonde wig on his partner didn't help. It was very 'Fabio' the guy who was on the romance book covers

Fabio has reclaimed his blonde locks and the wig is no more. PLUS PC's bloke now has a short dark crop. I don't feel best placed to judge the bodies (male or female) on stage, and was glad to sit as a mere silhouette in the shadows of the audience!

Opening being pushed to the 20th does make me hope for a rehash of the book properly... I could live with bits of the rest of it if they fix the book.

That really didn't make any sense at all. Will be curious to hear the changes that will occur from first preview till when it's "frozen" for critics/opening night

Completely agree. At first I felt bad for thinking it, but then I reckoned that most people were thinking the same. Not just physically I guess, but he seemed to lack the requisite charisma that should have come with the perfect prince they were describing. I had to check afterwards that it wasn't the understudy in case things had moved around. But this is one of just many many things that were bugbears for me about the production. Even a day after, I think it's a 2/5 show. Critics will probably give it 3s and 4s. Maybe.

Will be curious to hear the changes that will occur from first preview till when it's "frozen" for critics/opening night Time Out on July 3rd said via Twitter: "not only is he not going to jail, he’s brought forward the opening night to NEXT WEEK" and when asked for more details tweeted: "press are invited in Wednesday and Thursday with reviews embargoed until 11pm Thursday, it may well be that the 14th is still red carpet etc but reviews definitely out next Thursday night". But - it's years since Time Out were a Listings magazine (their ONLY REASON TO EXIST) so very few will have heard of this - whether actual information correct at the time, or a misunderstanding.

Are the crew in costume or blacks when they do scene changes? I remember at Glyndebourne we used to get paid more if we were in costume...

Any quality amateur company either aims for seamless transitions, or makes a feature of visible crew by theming them in; nothing less than either are right for professional production let alone West End.

Tweet is deleted now but they were saying the 19th is a special 'freedom day gala' with free NHS worker tickets

Hopefully even the ALW haters will give the man some credit for 1 - fighting for the arts in the first place ; 2 - doing such a classy thing as this

Thank you to those who responded to my questions about Prince Charming. While that plot turn still sounds to me as though it raises more questions, maybe I'll just have to see the show (hopefully, someday) to figure it out. And at least it's not the incongruously dark twist I was imagining.

Thinking from a purely practical point of view, how long would it take them to replace the seats they've removed for social distancing? If there is a Sunday matinee on 11th they've not got much time to get ready for the extra show on the 12th

And besides that the 12th is a week early for when social distancing measures end anyway!

Bar 2 or 3 songs, I would rather pickle my ears than listen to that album
