Yes, Boris said certain theatre shows. I suspect the government will extend an invite to offering venues the option to trial full capacity, and Cinderella is probably top of the list as ALW pushed forward with trialing shows last year when no one else was. The caveat probably being a show cannot force the audience to attend nor lose their money, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens. Presumably this and Joseph will be the trial shows given the Palladium has had a load of money spent on it and they will be the ones that cause the most uproar if they have to be rescheduled. I really hope so 🤞🏻 |

Can’t help but be cynical and think that ALW’s threat to open and be arrested was an empty one, fully aware that he was going to be in the trials anyway…

Boris just said that EUROS will continue to be piloted as will ‘certain theatre shows’ Cinderella may well be granted a reprieve Yes thats going to be interesting to hear which shows this affects. Wonder if Joseph will be included, as they've already used the Palladium for trials |

Is there an appetite for a non socially distanced show.
Unless they’ve had a major refurb The Gillian Lynne has a tiny bar area and entrance and the toilets are down narrow corridors as are the entrances to the circle.

Let's just crack on and get the theatres open. Well done ALW for making some noise, though given the Telegraph exclusive I'm inclined to think a deal was done some time ago and the threat was empty.

Agree The food and drink is a huge source of revenue they’re unlikely to forgo this Cue loads of people taking in drinks/snacks to the aud as an excuse not to wear a mask (as you’re allowed ) Can’t see the ushers disturbing the show to stop people do you? |

Every performance prior to the 19th of July now shows as “sold out” for Cinderella and they definitely weren’t close to that before today so I guess they’re still not fully decided on exactly what’s gonna happen during those first 3 weeks.
Edit to add the same applies to Joseph, guess they don’t want anyone else buying tickets while they work out exactly how these “pilot” events will work.

And I’m worried in case there are still escalators in the New Gillian London Lynn. I shall ensure I wear a sturdy shoe rather than my preferred flip flop. It's the moving escalators you need to watch out for. |

Nick Hytner should ask for one for Bach and Sons considering he's part of the Events Research Group. |

I'm sure that there will be other shows part of the trial.
Cinderella has always been a high profile case as a major brand new musical trying to open during this time and so can see why it would be one of the first in line to be part of a trial scheme in order for it to finally open.
Though I won't be attending before 19th July personally whatever.

But Hytner is no Tory so what's the advantage to BJ? Good photo opportunity? In all seriousness, it would make sense for the Bridge to be involved as they have flexible capacity so they could change the capacity of the theatre for different performances of Bach and Sons and see if it makes any difference. |

I think it is possible ALW may have played an absolute blinder on this. Obviously it mostly helps his show but by making a lot of noise he has kept the whole issue in the public eye and therefore in the political mind. If he hadn't been making this noise general/poltical journalists wouldn't be asking about this in press conferences.

As much as he annoys me, at least he’s making headlines with the plight of commercial theatre. I have everything crossed that Cinderella is used as a trial and opens the door for everything else to open safely as planned after July 19.

If the pilot is a success then it'll mean a lot more venues can open at capacity or close to it. I suspect that the vaccine/negative test requirement will be expanded to other sporting venues as well as theatre. |
