She's missed the mark a bit there. She is pretty much a conventional leading lady. It would be like Elaine Paige claiming she suffered immense backlash at being petite. Well not only that but she has immense privilege in her position as a white middle class performer with a famous brother, inbuilt influencer fan base, frankly it feels a bit tasteless - her alternate is a newly graduated black woman who is also not as slim as many performers (not going to say plus size as I think that's debatable on both).

She needs to take care with her words. Being the ‘plus sized’ champion no one asked, for while being UK average sized, not only alienates those ‘princesses’ who were in her category last night but also the curvy actresses who are doing just fine thanks. They really don’t need someone who never struggles in the casting process speaking up for them. Carrie needs a publicity manager to remove that privileged glass slipper shod foot from her mouth.

Were we surprised that she won? As it is more of a 'popularity contest? As people have said she means well, but perhaps she should think of the way she says/words her comments sometimes!

Considering Cinderella is one of the best known princesses in fairy tales, I don't think referring to the role of Cinderella in a production called Cinderella as a princess is really a 'promotion'. It's supposed to be an update on the traditional princess character (regardless of your thoughts on how well/if that was achieved).
Also, by fairy tale logic, marrying a prince makes you a princess - regardless of his place in the line of succession. Granted this Cinderella doesn't have a wedding, but ending up with /Prince/ Sebastian in the HEA, essentially makes her a princess.

I wish they’d rename the categories ‘Most Popular’ rather than ‘Best’. It’s a popularity contest so needs to represent that honestly.

Does Carrie have a publicist to check on her social media posts?

Does Carrie have a publicist to check on her social media posts? If she ever did become a real Disney Princess (dream on Carrie!) she would have to be severely restricted on her socials. You can’t snap at your shows customers like that when you’re carrying the Disney brand.

Just curious - did she ever offer any thanks to ALW in her acceptance speech. Seemed a bit obvious she didn't even retweet his congratulations.

She obviously knows that she’s leaving the role permanently then. Gulp. I hope young Ivano gets to stay on if he wants to. His hands aren’t entirely clean either.

Well she won’t be playing the role on Broadway that’s for sure. There’s a huge pool of talented performers to choose from.

He hasn’t been involved in the Twitter slagging off has he? I thought Ivano had remained very professional while Carrie and her mates were biting the hands that feed them.

A friend went to see this last week, said it felt like a teen pantomime. I’d say that’s a very charitable response.

I think he did a few retweets at first and supported the general idea, then BLACKOUT. I’m not even sure if he’s still alive.

He's being clever staying out of it all, it's his first big role and he's come out of it quite well.

This. Also I don't think I saw any retweets or comments at all from Ivano, both he & Georgina have stayed entirely silent. The most Ivano did from memory was like one tweet from one of the mouthier ensemble members.

Paywall. Can someone give us the gist of it please? West End star Carrie Hope Fletcher has spoken of how the cast of Cinderella pulled together following controversy caused by comments Andrew Lloyd Webber made about the production’s performers. Fletcher was speaking to The Stage at the WhatsOnStage Awards, where she addressed the fallout following comments made by Lloyd Webber, who told BBC Radio 4 that the show’s cast should not forget they work in the “service industry”. Fletcher - who picked up an award for her starting role in Cinderella – said: “The cast and the company and everyone who works in that building have been unbelievable from start to finish, and I feel like when you are thrown into slightly awkward situations you all pull together to make the show even better than it was before.” She added: “Because the only thing that matters is the audience, especially after the pandemic – and our show is so fun, and so off the wall, and camp and so bonkers, it’s exactly what audiences need right now after the horrendous, dreary two years we have had.” She said after the controversy, “the cast all silently looked at each other around the room” and vowed give the audience “the show they have come to see”. Fletcher also spoke about returning to the stage following two years of disruption caused by the pandemic. “Getting back on stage has been incredible. We have had the stop/start with Cinderella, which has been really really difficult and each time we’ve stopped it’s felt more heartbreaking, but it just means when we get back on stage it means all that much more,” she said, adding: “The audiences have been incredible and have showed their love at the end of every show.”
