Someone at the GL should really turn off the automatic ticket emails for shows this week... They're going to have a lot of confused people showing up at their doors otherwise :')

Well, someone hasn't connected some wires somewhere, because I just got an email with my ticket for tomorrow's performance!

Well, someone hasn't connected some wires somewhere, because I just got an email with my ticket for tomorrow's performance! Same happened for the matinee. They had to send an apology email a little while later. Surely when you know there's a problem, stop it from happening again??!

Well, someone hasn't connected some wires somewhere, because I just got an email with my ticket for tomorrow's performance! I think their email system has had a few problems for a few days. I got an email about 1.30pm on Saturday asking me what I'd thought of the show. a) I wasn't due to see it til the evening and b) I got another one half an hour later notifying me of the cancellation.

It’s an indefinite closure. In today’s Daily Mail: The theatre impresario told the Daily Mail he will not lift the curtain until ‘common sense prevails’ after being forced to announce its cancellation hours before its first night with a full audience yesterday. The 73-year-old producer, whose show was to signal the reopening of the West End, said there has only been one positive case among the entire cast and crew. But under the Government’s isolation guidance, dubbed the pingdemic, he said he cannot continue the run. He said: ‘We do not want to see any final curtain on any part of the theatre industry. Theatre is the dynamo for so many jobs. As well as actors and production staff we create opportunities far beyond the stage - for chefs and waiters, costume hire and taxi drivers, bus drivers and dry cleaners.’ As a long time fan he’s getting harder to defend. The mail quote you supplied left out the part where he refers to taxis drivers, restaurants etc as SMALL PEOPLE (0.24 secs in) Not the best turn of phrase, but I find this very defensible. Love to see anyone talk about the connectivity and community of people and their not so obvious links - it's almost like 'there is such a thing as society'. It's all the stuff from years back I can't defend. Although he says he was never a specifically Tory peer, I remember way before that he composed an anthem for a Conservative party conference (or was it an election campaign?). I wonder what that resurfaced as eventually - Devil Take The Hindmost? / Don't Like You? I went off his stuff for years, but then heard Sunset Boulevard and had to sigh and go....oh, well, go on then, lol.

Both Anything Goes and Phantom hasn't had said anything so seems unlikely it's them and the only musicals which are opening before the 16th August are Mary Poppins, Tina or The Lion King. ALW does seem to love his hyperbole with the suggestion of 2084 for Cinderella ALW might have been referring to Tina, it's not been widely reported but I got an email last week saying reopening was pushed back to 5th August because of a positive Covid case in rehearsals

Seems odd he's only doing for Cinderella but not Phantom and Joseph.

So is ALW asking for help from the government to open a show he chose to sabotage? He’s a bizarre man.

So do his cast just not get paid either due to ‘his’ decision? Happy to screw over both his customers and his team?

Can one man take a decision like that, which affects so many individuals livelihoods? Surely these decisions are taken in collaboration with many other people? Or does ALW just do his tantrum act and call all of the shots?

I would wait for official confirmation before taking that as 100% fact, but it was from someone I consider to be very reliable.

I think when Cinderella returns there will be some changes. I don't accept the recent bluff and bluster of ALW. Even as an advocate for this show, there are things that could and should be changed or improved. My initial hunch still stands that they will use the time to reset bits of the show that didn't work - or at least, if ALW has any sense, this is what he should do.

It seems fairly clear that even if it closes until the end of August, the time will be used to re-rehearse parts of the show and thus cast and crew would be paid for this.

I fully expect that he will pay the cast and crew IF this delay happens. I know he likes to throw his toys out of the pram, but I really don’t think he would leave them high and dry.
However, everyone’s assuming that the creative team have all the time in the world to keep tweaking the show. Many of them will actually have other jobs to go to so high chance that they will have to leave the show as it is for now.

My friend in Hairspray lost a weeks pay due to colleagues testing positive and the subsequent temporary closure. So do actors go into a contract knowing that its on a play and pay basis yes? That’s fair enough if so (but not obviously). A company really does have to be a team with no selfish links doesn’t it. Have they thought of sending their casts to live in monastery’s?
