Fair enough! I hope you like it when you see it next year! If you're free the rest of the week then they have been releasing a handful of returns each day, so if you keep an eye on their twitter account then you could potentially grab one of those if you wanted. They tend to go fast, but not immediately. Is this the film with Colin Firth as Montagu? I think I might be disappointed by the lack of songs :') And definitely by the fact that Colin Firth is not Natasha Hodgson. Thanks for the tip, I'll defintitely try to keep an eye out for those returns. And yeah that's the one! The film is actually releasing around the same time as the next run so I wonder if that might help the show's popularity any (or potentially hurt it)? There are a couple of return tickets up for tonight's performance, if you're quick!

How are there already so many days sold out? I guess that's a good sign of the quality of the show, looking forward to it even if it is a few months later than I had planned.

I don't think they've released all the tickets yet. If they release half and can list it as sold out for a little while, it will drive up sales for other performances. And they can be relatively confident that the remaining tickets will also sell once they put them up.

Ah I was wondering if that might be the case but figured they wouldn't be allowed to list dates as sold out unless they were legitimately fully sold out. Feels a bit cheeky tbh but I'm not too mad about it since I wanted to see it either way, just means I've had to commit to a date sooner than I normally would.

I mean I could be wrong and they may be legitimately sold out for those shows. They deserve to be. I just don't think they are quite yet. They still seem to be selling well, though!

This is back as of tonight and still wonderful. Very minor changes from the last run (which makes sense - why change what already works so well!). If you can, definitely go and see it.

Am thinking of booking for this as the reviews on here are great. Do all seats have a good view? And are they selling programmes?

The best seats are towards the centre, but not of them are bad. I would avoid the seats towards the front of house left, as the band is over there and can be quite loud.

This was rapturously received last night (instant and complete standing ovation) and quite right too - it's an excellent musical; brilliantly executed by a talented, hard working, cast of five. The verbal dexterity reminded me of Gilbert or Coward and it was musically distinguished too with a 20s/30s feel to many songs but also some more contemporary elements. You could just tell the cast were really enjoying themselves.
Oh and the band is great too.

I've booked to see it again and I can't wait.
Re the band I was disappointed when I noticed it was keys, bass and drums. Although I was wrong, the score is so strong and the arrangements so interesting that its a hive of excitement.

I'm reviewing this on Tuesday (18th) at the matinee performance, 3pm start. They've allocated me an extra ticket, if anyone wants to come along on a freebie, drop me a message. I won't know where the seats are until I get there but they should be decent.

If any venue could have learned something from the past two months, it's Southwark Playhouse and the need for understudies! They have had more cancelled performances than anywhere else.

If any venue could have learned something from the past two months, it's Southwark Playhouse and the need for understudies! They have had more cancelled performances than anywhere else. Shows at Southwark simply can't afford them. The logistics of staging a full musical in a small auditorium, for an extremely limited rub, with a low ticket price has always meant those shows pretty much never had understudies. The pandemic has meant it is even more finical challenging to run a show. So they either take the gamble or the show doesn't happen at all.

For some shows maybe, but this has a cast of 5, is returning for its third run, and has sold extremely well. Surely it costs more to have to keep cancelling performances.

Could anyone advise how bad the restricted view seats are for this? Seem to be at the extreme ends of the first few rows. Hoping to catch it next week and undecided between £14/£27.50 seats.

I haven't sat in them myself, but I believe they're the ones that are technically in front of the wings. I would imagine you will be able to see almost everything (possibly missing a few little things in the back corner nearest you), but you'd have a very side on view.

When I saw it last year I was at the extreme left of the front row. Not recommended. The performance area was stage left, so we were looking at the stage sideways and the actors often stepped out of view. Also the band were directly in front of us drowning out the lyrics. I don't know if it is staged identically this time, but my seats weren't sold as Restricted View when I bought them but they were for later in the run. Having said that I still liked the show enough to rebook for this run. Maybe it would be better a few rows back or further in but I would recommend avoiding A2 and A3.

Thanks both. I’m going to dig deeper and get a full price ticket for this.

Thanks both. I’m going to dig deeper and get a full price ticket for this. Definitely worth looking at the PAYG scheme also, £60 for 5 tickets which never expire. Southwark Playhouse has consistently good programming especially for musicals.
