An immersive production from St. Ann's Warehouse Production transfering to the Circle in the Square Theatre from Spring 2019. "The interior of the Circle in the Square will be repurposed as a community hall for the production, which coincides with the iconic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical's 75th anniversary. The intimate staging features a seven-piece band and chili served to the audience at intermission". www.broadway.com/buzz/194186/daniel-fishs-immersive-oklahoma-will-transfer-to-broadway/

I think we all knew this show was coming once the Circle in the Square became open. I think it will work really well in the space. I've never seen a re-imagined R&H show and I am excited to see it. Oklahoma is one of those shows that is meant to be big so, I'm interested in seeing how it will work.

Studio 54 now has to reprint the Kiss Me Kate posters to take off “2019 Best Revival” now that they have competition. Went from a shoe-in winner to what I’ve heard to a distant second.

More detail later but... if you’re going to New York - make sure this is on your list! Truly one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

If it's the same recipe as the off-Broadway run, it's under-seasoned and more of a stew than a chili. The cornbread was nice though.

The chilli was a nice touch!
So I know Oklahoma fairly well as I did it at uni, and just recently saw my sister do it at her uni. This was my first time seeing a professional production of it. They’ve taken the script, ripped it apart, and brought a whole new interpretation to it. The orchestrations sound wonderful, the performances and vocals are excellent, the story no longer seems cheesy and fun, it’s all a lot more serious and the stakes are higher. The dream ballet is now the nightmare ballet on crack. It’s grotesque. I won’t spoil it but the ending was really chilling and you certainly don’t go away feeling “uplifted”. My friend and I were both amazed and it inspired a lot of conversation.
5 star production!

Mark is it the same script or is it tinkered with? I'd love to see this and I'm chanting for a transfer or I can find the money for flights to NY!

But even the follow up after this uses the same dialogue. the trial plays out as a cover up for curly, rather than it being an accident

I wonder if this has potential to transfer over to London? I imagine it would depend on whether we see the Chichester production transfer following their run or not but this production looks so interesting!

It would need a special venue like In the Heights/Five Guys Named Moe had. I’d love it to come over but I’m thinking it may be a little “out there” for a typical London audience. I just hope we get a cast album because I love the arrangements.

How about the top of the Post Office Tower? With its revolve, it would be bang on trend!

Caught this last night and all I've got to say is WOW, this is what a revival should be!
Like everybody else, I thought I knew what Oklahoma was all about, a cheesy story that fills in the gaps between the show stopping tunes. What makes this revival so great how Daniel Fish, the director, strips down the book and rebuilds it as a minimalist musical where the characters are the main focus and not the score. This new rebuilding makes the show dark but absolute amazing to see. Mark is right, the ending is so much better now and I can't see Oklahoma using the old ending again.
If you go to NYC this summer you must see this. easily a top ten theatre experience. It's a shame the show is only a limited run production.
