Nikolai Foster and Arlene Philips were promoting it on the Graham Norton Radio 2 Show today - very interesting and fun interview. Really looking forward to catchier an earthier, grittier version. Although I loved it when I saw it at the Dominion back in 94! www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000fyvw(sometime after the first hour)

With Martha Kirkby being announced as part of the Bat Out of Hell tour cast, it’s safe to say she’s ruled out for the new tour

I can't imagine I would ever go and watch this again.
Grease 2 on the other hand... that is a show that needs to be brought back. It was such an enjoyable evening.

Booking this for when it comes to Belfast. Anyone else been to this version of the tour yet? It's always been on my list of ones to go see but I've never gotten round to it.

This has disappeared from the Liverpool Empire booking page on ATG - has the tour been completely cancelled?

This has disappeared from the Liverpool Empire booking page on ATG - has the tour been completely cancelled? No, there's still dates on sale from June onwards on ATG for Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Milton Keynes and Stoke-on-Trent.

Nikolai Foster and Arlene Philips were promoting it on the Graham Norton Radio 2 Show today - very interesting and fun interview. Really looking forward to catchier an earthier, grittier version. Although I loved it when I saw it at the Dominion back in 94! www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000fyvw(sometime after the first hour) WELL, there was somewhat if a delay, but I finally got to see this production last night at the opening night of the tour at Leicester Curve!
Elements were a little under-rehearsed but overall I really enjoyed it.
I had the great fortune to be sitting behind Arlene Phillips (making copious notes!) and she very graciously tolerated my geek-out conversation with her at the end.
I thought they made a valiant attempt to marry the original script/intention with the glossy/fantasy interpretation of the film.
Some of that does jar though. The original script very much infers Danny and Sandy were no more than a passing fling, and she realises he's a d*ck pretty damn quickly! However, the slushy lyrics of You're The One That I Want, Danny and Hopelessly Devoted To You ramp up the emphasis of a great love affair - which fans of the film I'm sure view it as.
But the choreography was great (of course!) and the spirited, young (age appropriate) cast gave spirited performances.
Peter Andre of course pulled quite a lot of focus - his fan club was certainly in - but it didn't get TOO ridiculous. And certainly the Vince Fontaine role covets audience reaction....
However the hen-night karaoke accompaniment to certain songs was hideous!
Great night out and an approach to the source material that felt more authentic than ever.

I really enjoyed this today in Bristol. Paid a whopping £19.59 for a single second row stalls seat and it was worth every penny. It was just refreshing for it not to be the done to death David Ian/Paul Nicholas staging of the last twenty five years. Added songs (presumably from the original version) and an appealing cast made for a nice afternoon. The alternate Sandy was on (Ellie Kingdon) and was a fair bit spunkier than the average drippy version. Great big voice on her perhaps a bit ‘too’ big for her songs. ‘Hopelessly Devoted To You’ is not ‘…and I’m Telling You’. But she was very good as was Dan Partridge’s Danny. I hope he hasn’t missed his chance to play the roles that Jordan Luke Gage has been swallowing up over the past 4 years because he’d be just as good.

Saw this tonight in Edinburgh and was very impressed, it’s so much slicker than the usual tour of this that goes out; and feels more like a proper musical rather than just a staged concert. There must be a bug going through the cast as we had a lot of covers on, all of which were fantastic. Standout for me I’ve gotta say was Ellie as Sandy, her voice is just phenomenal and I was shocked to learn this was her first stage role out of college, she really knows what she’s doing.
Peter Andre fans were unbearable but them aside it was a great night out.

This was just on in oxford new theatre last Week. I hate to slate a show but it was the second worst touring production i had ever seen. The first being hairspray. I went during the Week and people had got up and actually walked out. I admired the cast and thoroughly enjoyed reliving the songs from the film that i Watched until the video tape could play no more. Peter Andre was a crowd pleaser and had everyone on their feet, the finale was the best bit.😂🤣 I saw it today and had exactly the same thoughts as you. Loved the choreography but oh it did seem slow, and no one had got a believable American accent. No Peter Andre or Ore for us, but the fella who played Teen Angel had a brilliant voice, much better than ‘Danny’ in my opinion. The finale was pretty good though.

Is there any scheduling in place for which days Ellie Kingdon performs the role of Sandy?

Is there any scheduling in place for which days Ellie Kingdon performs the role of Sandy? Not that I know of, but Georgia recently posted on Twitter that she’s currently dealing with a personal situation, so I’d imagine that she’ll be doing most of the shows in her absence.

Ahh I see, I hope all is well with her and wish her the best. I have it booked for Belfast next week at the Wednesday matinee and I always love trying to catch alternates and understudies in roles. Fingers crossed there's a chance she is performing.

Is there any scheduling in place for which days Ellie Kingdon performs the role of Sandy? Ellie was on all last week in Manchester apart from Saturday matinee when Laura-Jane Fenney was on as Sandy.

Good to know, I'm hoping to catch some understudies. I heard recently that the actress in the role of Marty has changed although I dunno how legitimate that was.

Yes, I saw the show last Monday when Hannah Faith-Miriam (1st cover) was on for Marty, then the following day they announced that Tara Sweeting was taking over the role for the rest of the tour from Inez Budd.

That is a shame, but the role is in more than capable hands with Ms Kingdon. Definitely one to watch.

I caught this yesterday at the 100th performance. A very different and fresh take on Grease, going back to the original source and the casting was very energetic with great staging and choreography.
I would say if I had one issue it was the audience itself. I was sat next to a group of women in their 40s-50s who sang every song, ad-libbed and talked throughout to each other, checking their phones etc.
Behind me there was a woman who was obviously a self proclaimed "theatre buff" who had decided to commentate the entire show and throw out facts about the set, the orchestrations and actors. I love discussing this as much as the next person but not during the show.
As well as that there were a lot of children who were just too young to behave.
I hate being a grouch but it is definitely not a patch on my horrifying experience I had seeing Poppins. I'll probably opt for an evening performance if I'm seeing this type of show again.

Saw this recently. Great singing and dancing, but the acting left much to be desired. The actress playing Rizzo seemed to be miscast. She didn’t convey the essence of Rizzo at all. The person playing Frenchie stood out, and Peter Andre was surprisingly good!

Confirmed. Weird that it’s not opening until May when there are no more tour dates after December and Prince of Egypt is closing early January.

Yeah it's surprising it isn't starting sooner. I guess they want time to build an advance and also, Jan- March are typically very slow months in the West End. Initial booking is to October. Monday-Saturday with Thursday/Sat matinees.

There seems to have been such a lot of backlash against this version of Grease amongst "casuals" - i.e. the type of theatre fans Grease most attracts - outraged that this is not the "proper" version of Grease. (i.e. the Dominion version unapologetically based upon the film)
They are not interested in authenticity and the original script!
